YSL Sneaks a Peek at Orlando Ballet's BAILAMOS!

When it comes to the ballet many see it as the contemporary ballet of days gone by but let me assure this one is not. Mr. Hill’s artistic interpretative dance style has an urban edge, which is emphasized in this fast-paced vibrant sensual production of BAILAMOS!

As we sat there watching the rehearsal one could clearly see the inventive originality behind Mr. Hill’s choreography for it was full of energy and high-speed. The dancers exhibited their diverse training as they performed four different dance sequences for us.

The first of which was a Tango performed by Israel and Katia which allowed their love for the art to shine through. The intensity between them was electric and the performance energizing.

Next was ‘Cucurrucucu Paloma’ a very poignant piece performed by their principle dancers Katia Garza and Daniel Benavides. Both were spontaneous and never lost their creative spark or flare. It was heart moving to watch as the two gracefully gave life to the words of this song and when done it was easy to see how Katia would be so moved being it brought a little of her native Mexico to her.

For those who are unfamiliar with the song, it is a Mexican Huapango. The lyrics speak of two lovers separated by an ocean but in spite of this division it causes a deeper longing for the two that would not be silence. The dove was the symbol or messenger that carries the idea to the other. It was very, very moving!

Following sequence was the steamy rendition of Carmen, a story of a woman rebelling against a patriarchal society. The dance sizzled. It was passionately performed. There was enough heat in this dance to set any stage on fire. Lastly was the exhibition of Don Quixote which had lots of leaps, it was full of high energy, and the execution was on point, no pun intended. It was completely moving and inventively choreographed leaving the audience wanting more.

I’m sure BAILAMOS is going to be one of Orlando Ballet’s staples. Don’t miss this spectacular event February 19th at 8:00 pm at the Linda Chapin Theatre, Orange County Convention Center in Orlando,FL, purchase your tickets today.

Highlights of Today’s Show...
February 6, 2010
This week Yo Soy Latino celebrated its 1st Year Anniversary on the Air and what a rousing show it was. Jose’s energy filled the airwaves as he set in motion the momentum in the studio covering national and local news while giving it a stir from time to time. And as we all know, it’s much more fun to stir the pot!

In honor of our 1st anniversary, YSL had a very special guest for our listeners today. His works have been performed at the American Ballet Theatre; the Ballet de Monterrey including the Royal Ballet and the list goes on. He is not afraid of taking a traditional ballet and modernizing it. So without further adu Jose introduced Mr. Robert Hill Orlando Ballet’s Artistic Director.

There is more to Mr. Hill besides his years of training at the ballet. In the course of the conversation Jose asked, why did you choose ballet? It was then that he mentioned he initially started his path as a gymnast and swimmer. It was his athletic training in high school which gave rise to his passion for the ballet.

Hill worked under Mikhail Baryshnikov from the American Ballet Theatre. Then after much training as a principal dancer himself with the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden and the New York City Ballet, he joined the Ballet de Monterrey as Artistic Director where he was able to use his own multidimensional dance mind to heighten the artistic and technical level of the performers.

It is this dazzling experience which he brings to the Orlando Ballet. As Jose continued the interview you could see his light hearted spirit emerge. Both Robert and Jose discussed upcoming performances especially his latest choreographed work, ‘BAILAMOS!’ which is sure to be one of the best interpretations of the ballet ever made!

This presentation will contain all the fiery elements from explosive turns to passionate movements, and seductive steps all of which makes good sizzling Latin dance routines. Don’t be surprised if you find yourselves swaying in your seats as you see the performers groove while listening to the rhythms of yesteryear. It is a 90-minute event opening at the Orange County Convention Center on Friday, February 19th at 8:00 p.m. Our very own Haydee Ayala was invited to see a sneak performance.

Hottest Trends in Boots and Shoes!
February 6, 2010
We're facing a year of delicacy and tradition and while many of us will be wearing classical silhouettes and subdued colors we'll all be in need of making them pop, that’s a given. After all, doesn't every fashionista want to stand out from the crowd? So for the woman who isn’t shy and wants that 'stand out' look here are a few of the hottest trends in boots and shoes, beginning with boots.

Thigh high boots/over the knee boots are HOT, HOT, and HOT! And, they come in a variety of styles:

Classic: for a classic or elegant take on the over-the-knee boot, your best bet is to go for a slim-fitting suede pair with a round or tapered toe.
Rock: consider a tight black leather over-the-knee boot that screams rock-chic; tough, but sexy.

Futurism/Cyberpunk: building upon the cyberpunk influences, some designers have thrown an element of dark futurism into the thigh-high boot mix.

Quirky: if none of the above is audacious enough for you, and you really want to stand out, there are many other less subtle takes on this trend, nothing short of brazen. With such a variety to pick from select the one that best fits your personal style. But a hint to the wearer, avoid wearing thigh-high boots in place of pants, leggings or other form of leg covers.

Shoes: Heels remain a staple to women though they continue to vary as more and more designers step it up experimenting with bold new shapes, constructions, and styles. You’re going to see a lot of t-strap stiletto, open toe sandals to the wide ankle strap platform and let’s not forget the classic traditional shoes. My suggestion is to put a pair that will create that right mood for you!

In closing, we at YSL owe all of you a debt of gratitude for making this one unforgettable year for us. Therefore, YSL wishes to convey to our listeners and guests a special thank you for making this year incredibly rewarding.

So come back and join Jose and Haydee and the YSL team this Valentine's weekend as we revisit with Ms. Lara Dien to see what’s brewing in her world of erotica.

Highlights of Today’s Show...
January 30, 2010
Today’s broadcast was slamming as it had all the components of one brilliantly executed, fast-paced hour show. Talk show host Jose Miranda leads the charge covering the twists and turns of national and local news, followed by trivia, movies, recipes, stogies and so much more. What other show would cleverly add some serious some lively with a hint of quirky edges to its programming but Yo Soy Latino.

Occasionally, the show will devote the hour to one guest or one subject. However, YSL was excited to have Mr. Paul Partyka (D) running hopeful for Congress District 24, and Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez who is serving her seventh term in California’s 47th Congressional District for today’s show.

Jose begins by introducing the first guest of the hour Mr. Paul Partyka. Mr. Partyka is no stranger to politics as he served two terms as Mayor of Winter Springs while being involved in the local politics in terms of Seminole Democrats where he helped to reorganized some of that.

When asked what made him decide to run against Suzanne Kosmas for Congress he merely stated, “I’m not pleased with what I’m seeing and rather than sit back I decided to run”. He feels everyone should go into local politics, stating that you don’t have to be a politician but you must be able to look at both sides of the issues and be able to communicate your position plainly. Please listen to the show as he spoke on several pertinent issues.

In closing, it was easy to see what motivates him. He is down to earth and appears to have a firm yet even hand approach to issues. To reach out to him, or help with his campaign even learn more about him go to www.paulpartykaforcongress.com or you can reach him on his mobile number 407-341-0805. He’s also in the white pages.

Next, Jose welcomed Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez to the show. Congresswoman Sanchez represents California’s 47th Congressional District (serving her seventh term). In addition, she is the Vice-Chair of the Homeland Security Committee that would be #2 on the whole committee and she’s also the ranking woman or #8 on the Arms Services Committee plus she also assists on the Joint Economics Committee so all day long she’s working on war, terror and deficits. And yet, she still managed to find time to run, paint and do this interview. Now that’s one Powerhouse Latina!

Jose then speaks on immigration with the Congresswoman. She indicated that every country has the right to decide who comes in and out of its country. In order for us to do that we have to have a better system of knowing who’s in and who’s out and being in a very orderly manner to be better able to decide that and to bring people in.

The problem we’re having right now is that there are jobs here that require more workforce then we have people to fill them. Even in a recession we see more people still employed. So having the demand for jobs, immigrants do come here and it’s just not Mexico, it’s a lot of Latin American countries, it the Irish. They come from all over not just from the southern borders. We need to reform things because many have American born children and they are part of the American fabric.
We wish to thank our guests for they brought their own personal wit, charm and candor which made for one lively program. We encourage all to listen to today shows as it was impossible to cover everything.

What hairstyles, colors, and cuts are in for 2010!
January 30, 2010
The hairstyle trends for 2010 will feature a lot of new looks: there are the new hair trend heavily influenced by the recent Spring 2010 catwalks, and there are the reworking and evolutions of last year's hair trends — looks for hair from short to long with many variations.

Plaited & Braided hair....
The popularity of milkmaid braids which returned in 2009 are evolving into the braided hairstyle trend in 2010. While it's natural for hair trends to evolve between the years, the resurgence of the braided hair is mostly due as a result of the hairstyle featured heavily on the spring 2010 catwalks. There are two distinct braided hairstyle looks for 2010: the long side braid, and the fish plait, both side-braided hairstyle and great with any color.

Long Waved Hair — The 40s hair styles will continue as an inspiration for women's hairstyles in 2010. As it was last year this hair trend is again inspired by the late 40s and, to a lesser degree, the early 1950s. Just keep the waves firm but not curly and it should fall below the shoulders. You can wear it with an off-center or side part.

Hair color trends for 2010....
Colors will fluctuate for 2010 so do pay much attention to the styles and cuts. Three variations on hair colors: reds, blondes, and brunettes but black will be a hot color too.

Blondes — Peroxide Blonde bordering on white blonde hair is the color of choice for a striking look in 2010. Golden Blonde however adds another alternative since peroxide blonde isn’t for everyone. For many taking the more natural tone usually is the best because it does not add the extreme white coloring and dye process.

Redheads — Hot, Hot, Hot for 2010 and can even be considered the new bombshells. First because it’s a rare hair color which puts them into their own exclusive group. BUT, that doesn’t mean you can’t join them. Make sure that this hair color works well with you and ask your stylist how to best show it off.
Brunettes — Still a trendy color but add hints of red tones and you’ve combined the best of the most popular colors for 2010.

CUTS
Shaved side hair cut / undercut is not for everyone but it is becoming quite popular. Black hair with a short hair cut, the short black haircut is one of the 2010 haircut trends that are somewhat universal. Able to be styled in looks from classic to neo-rocker to a plethora of different ways (with or without a fringe, as a bob or near-on pixie crop short) the short black haircut for 2010 will work on most face shapes and skin color.

Next week Yo Soy Latino celebrates its 1st Year Anniversary on the Air!!!!!! So come back and join Jose to what will be one special program.

Highlights of Today’s Show...
January 23, 2010
Yo Soy Latino is as in your face as you can possible get especially when it comes to broadcasting; and, this Saturday was no different.

Amid the tragedy following the January 12 earthquake in Haiti and a faltering economy, YSL welcomed Congressman Kenneth B. Meek (D) from Florida’s 17th district who represents one of the largest Haitian communities in the United States. Jose chatted with the Congressman about the current situation in Haiti and how his constituents were dealing with the tragic events which had befallen this country —and we’re talking epic proportions.

The Congressman wanted our listening audience to know that his constituents have been moved by all the expression of love and aid that has poured out from this earthquake ravaged country. How everyone including our Latino sisters and brothers have come together in solidarity to help. This was and continues to be an incredible humanitarian effort as people work together to help one another. It was awe-inspiring to hear the details.

When asked by Jose if all the supplies have been getting in with reports of large bottle necks of supplies being tied up just inside the airport and with further reports of some looting and rioting going on. His response was that the United States among other nations was doing yeomen’s work taking control of a chaotic situation with only one airport runway operating and that the Navy and Air Force was now in control of correcting the situation.

As for some of the reports of looting and rioting being reported, he replied it was at best an isolated situation given the peril and the dire needs of the situation people dead or dieing, without food, shelter, water the basic human needs especially given the fact that this was already a very poor country to begin with. He said given all this the people of Haiti continue to be strong and filled with hope and thankful for all the help especially from the United States and the international communities. The Congressman further stated that he will come back to YSL and keep our listeners up to date on what’s going on.

In addition, YSL also had the honor of having as its guest the one and only live and in living color Mr. Kue Reyes — actor, comedian, writer, and producer of the recently launched “Latino 101”. Kue is no stranger to YSL. But it was a genuine pleasure having him in our studio as we discussed “Latino 101” which premiered January 8th on SITV. Unfortunately, we can not see it broadcast in Orlando as yet but if you happen to be in Miami, make certain you don’t miss it. It broadcasts every Friday at 9:00 p.m. And, if you've missed any part of the interview, please visit our achieved shows.

Fashion...
January 23, 2010
The news for 2010 is that Fashion promises to be an exciting year. As many great classically inspired trends will have a serious infusion of skin and sex. So if ever there was a time to hit the gym or get back to aerobics now is the time. Hemlines have gone shorter than short; we’re talking just a tad below the derriere while other styles will have the feel, look and grace of flowing fabric, revealing just a hint of the leg. Here are four key looks for spring and summer 2010.

Hot pants or boy short which reveal more than just the legs.
They were extremely popular in the late 80’s and early 90’s and referred to as Daisy Dukes shorts. Then hitting the runway once again in 2008 but grew stronger in popularity in 2009; and, for 2010 they are hotter than ever, and are not to be worn if you are a faint of heart, for they are for the confident personality, which of course means a great figure.

Knee high & over the knee socks are also making a come back.

Military and Tribal Trends.
This is just a basic fusion of the two styles coming together to become one fierce fashion trend. The military look has been big for some time now, but today it’s evolving. You're going to see elements of the military trends reinterpreted with a modern - often futuristic - twist. It’s going to be a little wilder and fiercer. This new look is going to bring a bit of the ancient civilizations and the warriors to life for Spring/Summer 2010.

High dress splits
Long slit skirts or maxi dresses in light, flowing fabrics that give a not-so-subtle hint of leg as one walks, or rather struts by, giving more than a hint of leg. The split reaches the top of the thigh to the hip infusing pure sex into a dress. Other styles will be in the breezy, free flowing fabric like the draping Grecian styles with just a hint or an injection of thigh-baring modernity, very sensual.

How to wear dresses with particular designs.... Heels are a must. Flat shoes just don't do the look justice, and will only cancel out the utter sexiness of the above the thigh split.

Tanned, toned, bare legs are perfect for this look in summer. But if a tan is out of the question, use over the counter tanners but make certain you wash your hands thoroughly after each application.

Go for light, breezy fabrics this season. Movement and flow are a big part of the charm. Take inspiration from the Grecian trend and marry a draping Goddess dress with a high split for the ultimate in summer sultriness. Use this look for those special occasions when you really want to turn heads like a dinner with your significant other, a night out with the girls or just a casual date with that special someone in your life.

Well that concludes our program for today. Tune in next week as Jose and Haydee and the YSL team speak with Paul Partyka, candidate hopeful for Congress 2010 District 24 (D) and Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez as they challenge you think outside the box, that’s Saturday from Noon to 1pm.
