YSL Sneaks a Peek at Orlando Ballet's BAILAMOS!

When it comes to the ballet many see it as the contemporary ballet of days gone by but let me assure this one is not. Mr. Hill’s artistic interpretative dance style has an urban edge, which is emphasized in this fast-paced vibrant sensual production of BAILAMOS!

As we sat there watching the rehearsal one could clearly see the inventive originality behind Mr. Hill’s choreography for it was full of energy and high-speed. The dancers exhibited their diverse training as they performed four different dance sequences for us.

The first of which was a Tango performed by Israel and Katia which allowed their love for the art to shine through. The intensity between them was electric and the performance energizing.

Next was ‘Cucurrucucu Paloma’ a very poignant piece performed by their principle dancers Katia Garza and Daniel Benavides. Both were spontaneous and never lost their creative spark or flare. It was heart moving to watch as the two gracefully gave life to the words of this song and when done it was easy to see how Katia would be so moved being it brought a little of her native Mexico to her.

For those who are unfamiliar with the song, it is a Mexican Huapango. The lyrics speak of two lovers separated by an ocean but in spite of this division it causes a deeper longing for the two that would not be silence. The dove was the symbol or messenger that carries the idea to the other. It was very, very moving!

Following sequence was the steamy rendition of Carmen, a story of a woman rebelling against a patriarchal society. The dance sizzled. It was passionately performed. There was enough heat in this dance to set any stage on fire. Lastly was the exhibition of Don Quixote which had lots of leaps, it was full of high energy, and the execution was on point, no pun intended. It was completely moving and inventively choreographed leaving the audience wanting more.

I’m sure BAILAMOS is going to be one of Orlando Ballet’s staples. Don’t miss this spectacular event February 19th at 8:00 pm at the Linda Chapin Theatre, Orange County Convention Center in Orlando,FL, purchase your tickets today.
