Review Summary
31/2 Stars
Machete is one action pack movie! Even the cast is very impressive (Danny Trejo, Steven Segal, Michelle Rodriguez, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson, Jeff Fahey, Jessica Alba, Robert DeNiro and Lindsay Lohan).

However, it is Trejo who gives his character a soul. He plays an ex-Mexican Federal police who seeks retribution on a former boss and fortuitously becomes a hero for the Mexican resistance.

Machete contains strong language, nudity and bloody violent images. Viewer discretion is advised. Unfortunately, the movie can be outright funny or drastically dull there's no happy medium. Even though Machete continues to be a movie attraction, I'm doubtful it will make the 2011 contenders list.

Highlights of Today’s Show...
Interview with Linda Rodriguez Bernfeld...
Orlando, FL — Once again YSL’s host Jose Miranda turns the studio on its ear as he begins the hour with one resounding Good Morning Vietnam! While co-host Haydee Ayala glances at him and smiles at his colorful and playful energy. After some light humor between the two hosts, Miranda starts talking on a more solemn note.

He opens with the disaster of September 11 thinking of all those individuals who perished that day. Those men and women regardless of the risks to themselves reaching out to help other survivors out of the debris of a fallen tower showed selfless heroism. More important, how Americans came together forgetting their differences and demonstrated unity under one nation.

Next Miranda addresses the lost of a colleague, radio talk show host George Crossley. Crossley who lived life doing what he believed in most, helping others less fortunate used his voice to create wakefulness in Orlando and will be missed.

Miranda turns to fellow host Haydee Ayala to learn what’s going on in the world of Fashion. Then it was on to movies. Following the review, Jose introduces Annie Adorno and Jetzy Ruiz. The two young ladies will host an hourly program on the Big 810AM WEUS called BidOnMyAuto.com beginning September 25th. The purpose of this show is to broadcast the many services and promotions available on www.bidonmyauto.com.

Before long, Darlyn Finch walks in as Annie and Jetzy leave the studio for another entertaining segment of Scribbles’ Corner! After a few comments and exchanges with Darlyn, host Jose Miranda introduces YSL’s scribbler Darlyn Finch. She engages in some light banter with the host before introducing today’s Scribbles’ guest, the delightful Linda Rodriguez Bernfeld. Then proceeds to ask her first question, what does the SCBWI stand for?

Bernfeld, who is an accomplished writer herself, is the Regional Advisor for SCBWI Florida, which stands for Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators. An organization which brings together writers of every genre, illustrators of picture books, middle grade readers and young adult novels for children and teen.

Darlyn then asked, “What is the purpose of the SCBWI Critique Groups?” Linda replies these groups are designed to help writers develop their craft and are free to anyone who wishes to participate. They meet up monthly to review material but after the first encounter most join. For dates go to www.scbwiflorida.com and click on the Critique Group tab.

The end to the hour approaches and Linda imparts her wisdom to all new writers. Keep right on writing read all books that relate to your field and whenever possible attend the conferences. These conventions are worthwhile as it allows members and nonmember to network directly with publishers and agents. If you need more information on the SCBWI go to www.scbwiflorida.com. And of course if you wish to reach out to Darlyn Finch go to www.darlynfinch.com.

The Best of the Coat Trends: The Aviator Jacket
September 11, 2010
The aviator jacket represents the BEST of the coat trends this fall, having been reworked in every possible way. From an exaggerated collar that give a modern twist to an otherwise humdrum neckline to those fabric favorites like soft leather and sheep skin! Plus, it is adorned with buckles and straps with gilets for added contrast and oomph.

This coat is ideal mainly because it can be worn with just about anything, from a sheath dress to those tight skinny jeans. To change the look a bit and give it a flirty feel, roll up the sleeves add some elbow length leather gloves and pair it with some knee high boots. But, if you prefer a more womanly look, consider the new maxi-length jersey skirts add a white shirt and pair it with a thin delicate ankle strap high heel shoe. You will surely be the envy of the office.

Also, wear your hair up or pulled away as this gives more definition to the face and jaw-line and will balance out the oversized collar.

The Sports Section...
NFL Opening Week
The National Football League season kicked off Thursday night, as last year’s defending champion New Orleans Saints took on old man Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings.

The game was billed as an epic rematch of last year’s NFC championship game, in which a late interception of a Brett Favre pass, gave the Saints the win in overtime and a trip to the Super Bowl.

This year’s game, however, did not live up to the hype. In the end the Saints came away with a 14-9 win in a sloppy endeavor on both team’s parts. Sunday brings a new set of games, with a hope for more finely tuned play.

I’m Anthony Gaenzle and that’s it for sports this week. Come back next week for more on The Sports Section!

Mmmm Recipe...
Turkey Empanadas with Cranberry Pneapple Salsa
Got turkey leftovers? This recipe is inspired by the day after Thanksgiving but is terrific for any occasion where you've got some extra roast turkey meat and want to do something fun! These empanadas are lighter and easier than a traditional version, using phyllo dough instead of a heavier dough base. A cranberry pineapple sauce complements the turkey flavor.

WINE Suggestion:
2006 Domaine Jean-Marc Pillot, Les Grandes Terpes ($30)
2009 Georges deBoeuf Beaujolais Nouveau ($10)

Yields: 8 servings • Total Cook Time: 30 minutes • Prep Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:
1 lb roasted dark turkey meat
2 sheets frozen phyllo dough
1 can sweet corn, drained
1 can black beans
1 onion
1 clove garlic
1 lime
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 tbsp of olive oil
2 cups apple cider
1 cup orange juice
2 cups whole cranberries
1 cup pineapple chunks, drained
1/4 cup of sugar

Directions:
1.) Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2.) Roughly chop turkey meat, onion and cilantro; mince garlic. Heat olive oil in a skillet and cook garlic and onions until translucent, about 3 minutes.

3.) Add corn, beans, lime juice and turkey and cook for an additional two minutes. Remove from heat, let cool, and stir in cilantro.

4.) Take phyllo dough and roll out into rectangles 4" x 3" in size. Fill a glass with water and wet edges. Add a spoonful of turkey mixture in the middle of each, fold over into a triangle and use a fork to press shut around edges.

5.) Brush outside of empanadas with olive oil and bake in oven for 25 minutes.

6.) While empanadas are baking, add cranberries, orange juice and cider in a sauce pan. Bring to a boil and let simmer for 15 minutes. Add sugar and pineapple and cook for another 15 minutes.

7.) Finish sauce by adding to a blender and puree until smooth. Plate empanadas with sauce on the side, and a garnish of cilantro and lime wedge. Enjoy!

Health....
5 Ways to Boost Your Water Intake
1. Use a Water Filter like Brita or PUR.

2. Meet the Intake Guidelines — if you eat 2,000 calories then you should be drinking 2,000 mL.

3. Avoid drinking at Night at least two hours before bedtime as this can result in waking up during the night to urinate and un-refreshing sleep.

4. Drink Filtered Water. Drinking tap water can be contaminated with heavy metals, micro-organisms, chlorine, fluoride and other impurities.

• You can improve the quality of drinking water by filtering with a reverse osmosis system, charcoal, ceramic, or other high quality filter.

• Check bottled water — some types are not spring water but actually purified water from the same source as tap water.
• Store water in glass containers. Avoid the plastic water bottles you find at the store. If you do drink water from a soft, clear water bottle, do not reuse it.
• Avoid drinking distilled water regularly, because it can deplete your body of needed minerals.

5. Drink Warm or Room Temperature Water — You wouldn’t water your plants with freezing cold water or put icy water into your pet’s water bowl, would you? In Traditional Chinese Medicine, cold drinks disrupt the proper flow of energy in the body and “shock” the body. Stick to warm or room temperature fluids.
