Highlights of Today’s Show...
Interview with: Caitlin Doyle (POET), Lara Dien (ROMANCE AUTHOR) and a cameo from Carl Como (BIG810AM)

Orlando, FL. — YSL had all the punch and verve necessary for today’s show! Jose began the program with a rather interesting picturesque dialogue.

Usually we celebrate this weekend like a rose day but did he hand us a rose. Not at all! He introduces a charming yet colorful narrative on how to overlook the physical shortcomings after being in a relationship for awhile.

He spoke of romance. The initial courtship when you both were young swaying to those slow moving melodies and everything was new and fresh.

Then after years of togetherness there's a metamorphosis. For there sitting across from you is your woman where once she sat with long flowing hair now sat with curlers in her hair and you’re dying to get your figures through it but are afraid to. Her body hidden by a frumpy robe, her hair covered in curlers and her feet adorned with beat up slippers while she drinks her coffee.

If you thought that was brutal then he begins to describe the male counterpart drawing your thoughts to the young fine-looking man who once possessed a full head of hair.

He describes the male as one who wears nothing but his boxer shorts glasses planted firmly on the bridge of his nose a few breadcrumbs lodged on the side of his mouth caught on the hairs of his mustache; and, let’s bring to mind that gorgeous mane sadly replaced by baldness. A reminder of how sweet it was.

It’s no wonder co-host Haydee Ayala begins brimming with laughter as she cheers him on for creating an absolutely perfect dialogue for this holiday weekend. Who but Miranda could pull that off!

Next Jose presents Caitlin Doyle, a very confident and driven poet. Ms. Doyle arrived in the studio accompanied by Mr. Mike Robinson, who’s heavily involved with the Jack Kerouac House and its selection process.

After a few minutes into her interview it was definite that she had all the grits and skills a poet could ever need to succeed, in addition to being charming and easy to talk. No wonder she was bestow the winter term Writer-In-Residence at Kerouac House, a well-deserved addition to the many other honors she’s received for her works.

Before leaving the studio Miranda convinced Doyle to recite a poem for our listeners. Though it wasn’t one of her own, it was a favorite, “The Bat”. We were so touched by the words and meaning behind this beautiful poem that Jose invited her back.

Mr. Robinson who was also in the studio mentioned that the Kerouac House will be presenting a writer from England that could be available for an interview on YSL. And for our listeners who are into poetry or writing the KH looks at 80 to 100 submissions at a time and all are welcome to submit their works.

If you wish to read some of Caitlin’s poetry just key in her name CAITLIN DOYLE POETRY in search. This will pull up all the websites where you could find her or simply enter kerouacproject.org and listen to the Podcasts and writings from Ms. Doyle.

Following Ms. Doyle was the one and only Ms. Lara Dien. Dien who has made several appearances on YSL has always been invited back to this studio especially on Valentine’s Day. Could it be the underlying subject of her works or a combination of the woman and her stories?

Well, we’ll let you figure that one out for yourself. However, what will be said is that Jose and Haydee have read her thought provoking stories and have enjoyed each one immensely.

Her newest release HeatIndex is one steamy story. And, for those of you who missed the show Lara is going to be gifting to the first five (5) individuals who reach out to her a copy of this manuscript. Be brave! Reach out. Who knows you might be one of the lucky recipients to receive such a copy. And while you’re there do check out her other books, particularly Emerald Ecstasy. You won’t be disappointed.

You can reach Lara on Hearts and Handcuffs – it’s not the heat, it’s the steam or on The Wild Rose Press.

Of course the show would not have been complete without a cameo appearance by Mr. Carl Como, owner of the station, who congratulated YSL for one more successful year.

Well that concludes another hour of Yo Soy Latino. If you missed it, we encourage you to go to the archived shows on our website and listen to this week’s rendition of YSL’s Romantic Valentine’s Weekend an interview with guests Caitlin Doyle and Lara Dien.

Bring Back the Romance!
Yes, Valentine’s Day is fast approaching so here are a few tips to look beautiful and keep the temperatures sizzling indoors though some states may be freezing.

Warm each others hearts by wearing black sheer lace lingerie, white or red will do. It’s just right for setting the mood for a very special romantic night.

Add some jewelry. Consider long sparkling rhinestone drop earrings. These will certainly captures the rays from the lit candles that illuminate your bedroom while drawing attention to those rose pedals that blanket your bed. And of course, let’s not forget shoes to complete your seduction — a nice pair of sexy stilettos goes a long way.

Enhance the mood further with a hint of very dark chocolate on your night stand table. The chocolate is sure to increase his/her libido or sex drive for longer love making sessions.

The phenyl ethylamine found in chocolate gives the brain the feeling of being in love while the alkaloid (similar to caffeine) stimulates his/her soul. So make haste and stock up.

Don’t forget to share some strawberries with your love one. That’s a natural way of increasing one’s libido without the side effects of medication.

AND if you’re a bit creative give him/her a treat. Make some chocolate covered strawberries. Yes, they can be purchased as well. Not only is this one tasty indulgence but it will put the steam back in your romance.

Now put your lips together and pucker up. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Mmmm Recipe...
Seared Rib Steak With Argula

Prepare this boldly flavored steak as the centerpiece of his/her romantic menu to match their down-to-earth personality. It’s easy, fast to plan (suggestion: make ahead) and serves 2. Perfect for Valentine’s Day. Pair it with a light berry or red wine like the Seguin Manuel Bourgogne (2008).

Ingredients:
½ cup plus 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
¼ cup chopped rosemary
3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
Salt and freshly ground pepper
One 1-pd prime rib-eye steak, about 1 ¼ inches thick, fat trimmed
6 ounces Arugula, large stems discarded
Lemon wedges, for serving

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 400°. In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup of the olive oil with the chopped rosemary and bring to a simmer over moderate heat. Remove from the heat and let stand for 10 minutes. Strain the oil through a fine sieve and let cool completely; reserve 1/2 teaspoon of the rosemary. Whisk the balsamic vinegar into the oil and season with salt and pepper.

In a medium ovenproof skillet, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil until shimmering. Season the steak with salt and pepper and cook over high heat until well browned on the bottom, about 3 minutes. Turn the steak, transfer the skillet to the oven and roast for about 8 minutes for medium-rare meat. Transfer the steak to a carving board and let rest for 5 minutes.

Toss the Arugula with 1 tablespoon of the rosemary vinaigrette and mound the salad on 2 dinner plates. Thinly slice the steak crosswise and arrange it over the Arugula. Sprinkle each serving with 1/4 teaspoon of rosemary and then drizzle with 1 teaspoon of the rosemary vinaigrette. Refrigerate the remaining vinaigrette for another use. Serve with lemon wedges.

MAKE AHEAD
The vinaigrette can be refrigerated overnight. Bring to room temperature before using.

Health....
Stop a Cold in Its Tracks
By Kimberly Holland (Edited version)

Here’s how to stop a cold before it takes hold — and feel better by tomorrow. Drink Plenty of Water or Juice – This will help to keep you hydrated.

Gargle with salt water - a teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water will soothe.
Keep your nose clean - a saline nasal spray at the first sign of a cold may reduce their impact.

Within the first two hours - grab a pain reliever like acetaminophen to fight off achiness.

Skip the OTC cough medicine - Good old honey works just as well and tastes better.
The next six hours - if you can skip work do. Your body can fight off the virus better if you’re well-rested. But if you have to go in, it’s not the end of the world. Just steer clear of co-workers as best you can—the first few days of a cold is when you’re most contagious.

Don’t forget the fluids - Keep drinking plenty of water, juice, or tea—and have some chicken soup for lunch. Grandma’s favorite cure-all really does ease cold symptoms, research suggest

Shake it off - If you’re up for a little activity, take in some "light” exercise, but keep your heart rate just under 100. This can actually boost the immune system.
At the end of the day — Last chance for germ-fighting!

A healthy diet can help fuel the immune system, so choose a dinner that includes protein-packed foods like lean meat, fish, or beans, with a whole-grain side like brown rice and plenty of antioxidant-rich vegetables. And take a hot shower before bed if you’re still feeling stuffy. Then get a good night’s sleep.
The next day — All better?

If you feel worse or have a fever, start vomiting, or develop an increasingly bad headache, call your doctor as these are signs you’ve got something other than the common cold.
