Lights, Camera, Action — Today’s Review...
Iron Man 2
This movie definitely has catapulted the career of Robert Downey Jr. for his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man. Downey who has the rare and marvelous capacity of surprising everyone, I’m sure including himself just like he did in Sherlock Holmes, leaves you wanting more, you just can’t stop watching the man, which is quite impressive because Downey who was once quoted as saying he was not really an actor was in his element again. In fact, he is a very good actor. Outside of his main character, the movie itself leaves viewers to sort out much of the interstitial blah-blahs for themselves. Overall the film is quite funny, it is enjoyable, it’s full of action and so much more. However, on the YSL meter from 1-5, this movie’s rating is a 3.

Highlights of Today's Show.....
May 15, 2010
Miranda's talent makes the potentially roughest of broadcasting seas as smooth as a lake as he revisits a hot button topic which seems to spark more opinion than the media can keep up with — the Arizona immigrant law. Have we gone too far?

While many listeners feel this law will discourage the unlawful entry and presence of aliens others feel it is a setback for civil rights. The new law compels police officers to question a person about his or her immigration status if there is “reasonable suspicion” that person may be in the country illegally. Hmm. What does that mean exactly, reasonable suspicion?

Even the most obnoxious of hosts would take offense to a seriously flawed law as it does sound almost punishable for being Hispanic. It is important to note that immigration is a Federal matter. Are we giving the states and police a license to discriminate? Right now there are at least 10 other states considering similar laws even Florida’s current Attorney General who is also running for Governor wants to follow the Arizona law. Are we creating laws which can allow police to pull someone over for being Hispanic? Some say no as this is the norm when you are questioned or pulled over by the police while others say yes. Is this the slam dunk resolution we’ve been looking for in addressing the immigration problem or are we in fact generating new ones? What are your views on the subject? Send us your comments/opinions and we will read them on next week’s show.

Diverting our attention a bit from this rather meaningful fiery issue, YSL’s host Jose Miranda turns his attention to co-host Haydee Ayala for a review of the new box office hit ‘Iron Man 2’. Afterwards Jose goes on to trivia then in to a conversation with Alan of Ol’Times Cigars for this week’s most popular sellers.

Afterwards, Jose then engages in a conversation with Mr. Manny Ruiz co-publisher of the Hispanic PR Blog and co-founder/owner of the Hispanic PR & Social Marketing Conference. Ruiz who is recognized as a media trailblazer spoke of his experience before entering the PR profession. Ruiz started out as a police beat reporter for The Miami Herald and as member of the 1992 editorial team was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Community Service for team coverage of Hurricane Andrew. During this period, Ruiz also shot photographic documentaries in Cuba. His black and white photography from the island earned him three exhibits, two solos and a national award. To find out more and what’s going on in the world of Hispanic public relations and social media visit www.hispanicprblog.com.

Next, Jose introduces the charming Ms. Betty Martinez Lowery, a senior manager of Minority Business Development (MBD). An organization that helps expand business opportunities for minority suppliers by building strategic relationships with minority businesses, professional and civic organizations within Hispanic/Latino, Native American and Women based organizations and firms that do business with Disney.

Betty explained that for one to be considered for participation in Minority Business Development’s process, a business (minority- or woman-owned) may be of any size or type, and must provide products or services that they are currently purchasing. These firms are at least 51% owned, controlled and operated by one or more minority (or female) individuals who are United States citizens. Minority groups such as: African American, Asian American, Hispanic American, Native American, or Women.

She is a published author of a Spanish language textbook and is currently working on her first novel, a semi-biographical story based on her experience as a survivor of the Cuban communist revolution and her family’s immigration to the United States as refugees in the early 1960s. Wow! What a phenomenal Latina! To learn more about the MBD you can visit their website at http://minoritybusiness.wdwpubicaffairs.com.

A special thanks to John Hamilton Producer of the People Power Hour who stopped by to join our YSL family today and to our guests Ms. Betty Martinez Lowery and Mr. Manny Ruiz. Who added much to today’s Show. Next week prepare for another exciting and more illuminating hour as YSL brings two more movers and shakers for your entertainment pleasure, Mr. Ronald Blocker, Superintendent of Schools and Robert Hill, Artistic Director for the Orlando Ballet.

Silver Jewelry – A Timeless Piece or a New Way of Being Healthy!
May 15, 2010
It is true that men enjoy jewelry just as much as women and some actually prefer silver jewelry over gold. But just like anything, jewelry is a personal choice. It is that which sets apart that individual from most people. Beside, you can find great pieces of silver jewelry on the marketplace for a lot cheaper then gold and given our current economy that’s not a bad thing as we continue to find ways of scaling down without compromising our fashion sense.

Still, there is another reason why I chose this particular metal as my subject for discussion and that is because silver is becoming more popular for two reasons. One reason is for its beauty the other for some surprising health benefits. For example, silver is seen as having disinfection properties as well as antiseptic properties — being able to kill bacteria and clean external wounds. Furthermore, it is often used in making medical equipment such as urinary catheters and breathing tubes. Again, the reason being silver will destroy the microorganisms while allowing a faster healing process.

Even some wearers say that their energy levels have increased after wearing silver jewelry. They felt more alive, more energized and ready to take on whatever life through at them. I am not advocating this as an alternative medicine choice but if you feel like many people who have claimed that these energy jewelries have helped them with their illnesses and have helped them to feel better keeping in mind that you do not deviate from your doctor’s treatment you’re fine.

For me, I appreciate the beauty of silver. It is undeniable! Often you will find pieces in a variety of styles to fit any lifestyle. The craftsmanship makes every piece stand out as a beautiful addition to any wardrobe. You can find pieces with carvings etched on them (just look at the Navaho jewelry pieces) all inspirational. Further you can find it in bracelets, bangles, anklets, necklaces, rings, any piece you desire for less; plus, it works for men or women.

So, whether you are attracted to silver jewelry for the beauty and elegance of silver, the strength and durability of silver, or simply for the Far East’s alternate medicinal properties it may hold for you, you will surely find a sensibly price piece of jewelry to suit you and your wardrobe.

Remember if it’s Saturday and Noon time fix those radio dials to the BIG810 WEUS AM because it’s time for the Yo Soy Latino Radio hour.
