Highlights of Today’s Show...
January 16, 2009
It would be nice to wow you with how easy it is to make one of our shows come to life but to do so would be short changing the process. Between calls, questions and the crisscrossing of ideas to the challenges of the events of the week all play intricate parts in putting a program together. and when it materializes and comes to life it can be all encompassing. Like this week, YSL was filled with everything from politics to the tragedies in Haiti.

Something that stood out this week and which brought a sense of pride and amazement was in seeing how the people of the United States given our weakened economy seemed to rise up to handle a situation they felt far greater then their our own and have been awesome in raising money for Haiti, hope and prayers. True there were a few mistakes here and there but in the middle of all this ciaos people were able to set aside their own political convictions. Of course, there were a few who took it as a time to play politics, However the situation also begs another note of conversation. Why can’t we as a nation come together and do the same things in the states? We have plenty of homeless people here and the numbers are getting worse due to a vast majority being without work, to people with medical issues, to a myriad of things.

So you see getting this all together is a process. YSL also spoke about health issues as well as fashion to the latest in the media today like the new issue of “V” magazine, who for the first time challenged the usual concepts about clothing, fashion and models and will put out an issue about women that are a plus size this February.

We also spoke about one of our own Haydee Ayala, attending a function with the phi beta which honored local community leaders (see write up of affair) which fostered educational excellence and brotherhood. Finally, YSL spoke to the one and only George Crossley grand poo of the “The People Power Hour” radio show who along with John Hamilton can also be heard right here on WEUS.

So this is a small part on how a show air’s, it was a smash hit with the audience and the team. One can say the circle was complete because YSL spoke openly about the local politics to how the United States is handling the rescue effort in Haiti while covering other topics and still keeping a good perspective. Fashion — The Big Reveal...
There’s a new upcoming magazine called “V” which embraces thick curvaceous women, a magazine that intends on bringing sexy back to the LARGER women while baring all and still making a daring statement.

We all know that the fashion industry has always been involved with selling the ‘perfectly thin’ body as well as the garments and accessories to hang upon it. Further, that the body (its image that is) was traditionally sold as a model for emulation by consumers of fashion, while showcasing the same body to be seen and viewed as an object of sexual desire by different customers — or perhaps the same ones.

Therefore, it is safe to say that we live in a time of sharply polarized attitudes toward such things as nudity and salty language. In addition, we can all agree that a lush body is satisfying to look upon, and the man-made items adorning it do not have to compete with other man-made items that occupy more acreage because the objective in fashion is to sell the goods.

However, to include women who bodies are NOT thin but range in sizes from 10 and above is ideal as most women’s sizes are divided into various types, depending on height, bust, and backs. Further, the average body is much more than a pear shape.
Though fashion today has its own reality, the difference is now beautiful thick women can be fashionably nude and safe from the leers and censures of the world just as all women can. So I applaud the publisher and its writers for unveiling “V” Magazine to the market because women of all sizes can now join in the fashion revolution and look fabulous doing it.

YSL makes the hard choices to bring you the voice of a community and the best talent to make our shows entertaining. Do listen next week as Jose and the YSL team bring you Congressmen Meek and the return of Keu Reyes live in the studio.
