This third installment of the Transformers sequel is lively; and, if you are going to destroy a city while filming this would be the best way to do it. Of course, there are several sequences that are a bit more convoluted but overall it was funny and technically impressive although way too long. However, if one can get passed all the cliché and sitting attentively through a 2-plus-hour-film then one can enjoy the exhilaration!

Will New Deal on Debt Hurt Democrats in 2012
Washington (CNN) —President Obama’s more ambitious package of $3 to 4 trillion in cuts, a move that would require putting Social Security, Medicare, defense spending and tax reform on the table as part of a balanced approach to cuts, will this new deal on debt hurt Democrats in 2012? Success rests heavily upon either the Republicans or Democrats caving in on their public positions, and in the case of Democrats, not one but two. It is hard to imagine either party giving in enough. Particularly since Republicans are virtually united in opposing any tax increases, much less $1 trillion.
Talk of Gang Violence spread after Kissimmee Graduation-Party Shooting
(Orlando Sentinel) — Osceola High graduate Rashan Ortiz, 22, was fatally shot and killed during a graduation party for his younger brother on June 5, 2011. Ironically at a party his grandparents put together to honor the neighborhood’s Osceola High School graduates. Initially the police wrote in their report that it was promoted by an undisclosed disagreement between Ortiz, 22, and murder suspect Joshua “Bam Bam” Harris, 17. However, at the hospital a tipster identified two men as leaders of the Westside Boys street gang and said that one of them had a long-standing feud with Ortiz and that one of the gang leaders "encouraged a male by the nickname 'Bam Bam' to kill Rashan."
Appeals Court Suspends Enforcement of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ Policy
Washington (CNN) — A federal appeals court says “don’t ask, don’t tell” cannot remain in place. The Obama administration supports repeal of the policy but the administration opposes repeal faster than planned. Military officials suggest policy changes eliminated DADT could be finished in a few weeks. Gates last fall raised the level at which gay and lesbian troops can be discharged under the “don’t ask, don’t tell” by ordering that if only be done by the secretaries of the Army, Nancy and Air Force. There have been four voluntary discharges — all from the Air Force — in connection with “don’t ask, don’t tell” since October, according to the Pentagon.
Murdoch calls Allegations against his paper ‘Deplorable’
London (CNN) — Media baron Rupert Murdoch speaks out breaking his silence on accusations swirling around his flagship British Sunday paper Wednesday calling allegations that journalists illegally hacked into the voice mails of murder and terror victims “deplorable and unacceptable.” British PM David Cameron says a phone hacking inquiry is needed, but not yet. Meanwhile, the father of the bombing victims says, the hackers “needs to be punished, and punished severely. The police launched the new investigation this year in response to widespread complaints from politicians, celebrities and other high-profile figures that fear they have been targets.
Scott’s Deputy Communications Director heading to RPOF
TALLAHASSEE (Orlando Sentinel) — Gov. Rick Scott’s deputy communications director Brian Hughes will be the new mouthpiece of the Republican Party of Florida. “Brian is a skilled communicator and campaign strategist,” said RPOF Chairman David Bitner in a news release. “I am excited to have him join our team as we prepare for Presidency 5 and the crucial 2012 elections.” Hughes is the latest of several high profile departures from Scott’s office. Chief of Staff Mike Prendergast was named the new executive director of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Chief Adviser.

(CNN) — Pyeongchang, South Korea was chosen Thursday to host the 2018 Winter Olympics. France has hosted three and Munich was trying to become the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics but when the announcement was made the cheers within the city were deafening.
Strauss-Kahn Accuser Slaps NY Post with Libel Lawsuit
New York (CNN) —The alleged victim in the Dominique Strauss-Kahn sexual assault case has filed a libel lawsuit against the New York Post and five of its reporters after the newspaper reported that the woman was a prostitute, according to court filings. A spokeswoman for the New York Post (Suzi Halpin) said, “We stand by our reporting.” The Post who has garnered a reputation for its sensationalist headlines and provocative reporting, on July 2nd published the headline, “Maid cleaning up as hooker,” citing anonymous sources and implying that the maid was doing double duty as a prostitute and collecting cash on the side from male guests

Orlando FL – YSL host Jose Miranda with his upbeat and fresh personality slams dunk another show. Miranda has had many conversations over the years that can either make you weep or holler from frustration and today was a perfect example. One caller raised the issue of the stimulus monies stating it all began with the current president which of course caused some highs and lows in the studio. There appeared to some divergence as to when the economic stimulus was first put forth.
Initially, the economic stimulus started in August 2007 when the Federal government responded to the sub-prime mortgage crisis, adding $24 billion in liquidity to the banking system. Banks got $188 billion in bailout money and paid out $2.6 billion to top executives in salary, bonuses and benefits for private planes, club memberships, and the likes.
Then by September 2008, Congress approved a $700 billion bank bailout to stabilize financial markets, now known as TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program). By March 2009 (two months into office), President Obama proposed the $787 billion economic stimulus package (not to be confused with the earlier stimulus) in an effort to forestall a very heavy recession. A stimulus which was intended to save and create between 1.7 million to 2 million jobs, but its impact was not enough though it did prevent a global depression. Of the $245 billion invested in banks, $169 billion has been paid back. The GDP during the Reagan/Bush era amounted to 3.2 percent while the GDP percentage of the current crisis cost is estimated at less than 1 percent, huge difference.
This depression was brewing for a while when the world stock markets had fallen. Large financial institutions collapsed while others were being bought out; and, governments — even in the wealthiest nations — had come up with rescue packages to bailout their own financial systems. Though there was much speculation that those responsible for the financial woes are due to the ones being bailed out, or a global financial meltdown. Nonetheless, it was one which ultimately affected livelihoods of almost everyone in an increasing inter-connected world.
As there was no resolve to this matter, Miranda thanked the caller and goes on to introduce Ms. Mary C. Curtis, contributing editor/writer/reporter and Fox morning news personality. Curtis who is a frequent guest on YSL speaks from the heart, weighing in on issues of South Carolina including an impressive array of GOP candidates going there for the primary. To the Governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley (Republican), who is quite conservative according to Curtis, having to sign a tough immigration bill into law, a law which now requires police to check the status of anyone stopped or arrested for another reason and suspected of being in the country illegally; and, she pulled back on some funding from the primary.
Meanwhile, in Charlotte, NC and the designated site for the Democratic National Convention Governor Bev Perdue vetoed the NC state budget bill which would cut too much into education in addition to rejecting the voter ID bill, plus, she also veto a very restricted abortion bill that would have required women seeking abortions to wait a period of 24 hours to have an ultra sound before having the procedure. A bill that is dangerously intrusive into the confidentiality between women and their doctors. Some red states have already enacted some of these laws already.

Broiled Salmon with Miso Glaze

(Eating Well) Versatile miso (fermented soybean paste) keeps for months in the refrigerator and adds instant flavor to soups, sauces, dips, marinades and salad dressings. Keep in mind that the lighter the miso, the milder and sweeter its flavor. Light miso is the key to the wonderful flavor of this salmon.
Serving: 4 • Time: 25 MIN
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
2 tablespoons sweet white miso paste
2 tablespoon mirin (Japanese rice wine)
1 tablespoon reduced-sodium soy sauce or tamari
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
3 drops hot pepper sauce
1 ¼ pounds of center-cut salmon fillet, cut into 4 portions
2 tablespoons thinly sliced scallions
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro or parsley
*Calories 252, Total Fat 10g, Saturated Fat 2g, Cholesterol 78mg, Sodium 432mg, Total Carbohydrate 7g and Protein 30g.
Directions:
Position oven rack in upper third of oven, preheat broiler. Line a small baking pan with foil, Coat foil with cooking spray.
Toast sesame seeds in a small dry skillet over low heat, stirring constantly, until fragrant, 3 to 5 minutes. Set aside.
Whisk your ingredients together (miso, mirin, soy sauce or tamari, ginger and hot pepper sauce) in a small bowl until smooth.
Place salmon fillets, skin-side down, in the prepared pan. Brush generously with the miso mixture. Broil salmon, 3 to 4 inches from the heat sauce, until opaque in the center, 6 to 8 minutes.
Transfer the salmon to warmed plates and garnish with the reserved sesame seeds, scallions and cilantro or parsley.

Cinnamon and Spice for Your Blood Sugar

Certain spices could help control high blood sugar or minimize the damage it causes. So let’s begin the kitchen roll call – cloves, all spice, and cinnamon, three holiday favorites. BUT, did you know that in a recent lab study it revealed that the antioxidants in cloves, allspice and cinnamon may inhibit the formation of bad-for-your-body-high-blood-sugar-compounds, yet these compounds can also lead to a host of diabetes-linked problems like heart disease, nerve disorders, and eye and kidney damage.

Florida Democrats’ Struggle to Capitalize on Latino Surge

ORLANDO, FL (AP).— Florida Democrats have seen their registration numbers swell in recent years, due in large part to a surge in Hispanic voters.
But despite their success on paper, state Democratic officials are struggling to connect with Hispanics, who have little representation among the party's Florida leadership. "There's no bench here. Democrats don't cultivate Hispanic leaders," said Freddy Balsera, who heads a Hispanic-focused public relations firm in Miami and serves on the Democratic National Committee's finance team.
That's a problem for the party statewide but especially true in South Florida, where Cuban exiles have long been loyal to the Republican Party and have built their influence over decades. Meanwhile, only three Latino Democrats serve in the state House, none in the Senate. And as the state begins the process of redrawing political boundaries to conform with population changes since 2000—which will likely lead to at least one new heavily Hispanic congressional seat—Democratic party officials have been slow to respond.
"The Republican Party views Hispanics in terms of market share: Who are they? How do we reach them? Democrats still view us in terms of quotas," Garcia said. Joe Garcia, a past head of Miami-Dade Democrats and former Obama appointee who ran unsuccessfully for Congress last year, said Republicans have been more aggressive in going after Latino voters.
Florida Hispanics, like Latinos nationwide, provided overwhelming support in 2008 for Obama thanks to a national get-out-the-vote effort. Since December of that year, 73,000 have registered in the state as Democrats and another 76,000 have registered while declaring no party. There have been 31,000 new Hispanic Republicans. The growth in Democratic voters has come in part from younger, more progressive Cuban Americans and a wave of Puerto Ricans and other Latinos.
But that didn't help Florida Democrats in last year's election, as turnout of their Hispanic members dropped sharply—even more than among other Democratic voters—according to party leaders. It was one reason why the Democrats lost races for governor and U.S. Senate as well as other statewide contests.
For Democratic Hispanic Caucus leader Jose Fernandez in Orlando, that drop came as no surprise. The Army veteran recalled how Democratic gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink bought few Spanish-language ads and toured a local Puerto Rican community center only weeks before the election, when narrowly lost. "People still thought she was a man with a name like Alex," he said. "We don't work like that. We have to see people, hear them."
The Democrats' challenge in Florida comes as the party expects to do well again nationally with Latinos in 2012, in part because of GOP attacks on the immigration issue. But Hispanics in Florida are somewhat of an anomaly. Cubans, who make up the majority, are generally allowed to stay in the country as soon as they touch U.S. soil, and Puerto Ricans are already citizens. Among the state's growing South and Central American communities, many have yet to be naturalized.
Patrick Manteiga, publisher of a trilingual Tampa newspaper (Spanish, English and Italian), said the party needs to reach out to new leaders like those at the region's thriving Hispanic churches, many of them evangelical. "The pastors may be conservative Republicans, but there are many Democrats among their congregants," he said. Scott Arceneaux, executive director of the state Democratic Party, said the party is trying to improve outreach, but he conceded his party could take a page from the Republicans when it comes to Hispanics. "They have absolutely done a better job than we have," he said. "It's finding young school commissioners, your business and community leaders. You've got to identify those people and help bring them along."
Earlier this year, Florida Democrats hired a Puerto Rican community activist from Orlando to head Hispanic outreach efforts. But the party declined to make her available to The Associated Press for an interview. Luis Garcia, one of the party's three state representatives, said he's urged the Democrats to hire someone to do similar work in South Florida. "Where we have been failing, is that we have not been attracting the younger voters," said Garcia, a retired fire chief who is being courted to run for Congress against embattled South Florida Republican David Rivera.
Arceneaux blames the lack of elected Hispanic Democrats on districts created a decade ago by the Republican-controlled Legislature following the 2000 Census. But as the state gears up again for redistricting, local Democrats have missed key opportunities. In Orange County, many Puerto Ricans were angered when officials failed to appoint any to a redistricting committee even though they make up a third of the county. Local Democrats were slow to react to the flap, even though Puerto Ricans tend to support them.
Similarly, in neighboring Hillsborough County, it took a New York-based Latino civil rights group from New York to help propose a county commission redistricting map that accurately reflected Hispanic growth. The mostly Republican commission nixed that map during a recent hearing. Local Democratic leaders were largely absent, attending their monthly meeting.
At the national level, the Obama campaign has set up Spanish-language phone banks in Florida and is planning a grass-roots organizing meeting later this month. But Fernandez and others say engagement with Latinos should be about more than electing a Democratic president every four years. Amy Mercado, chair of the Orange County Democrats, said she wants to see people in office like herself "who may be Hispanic, who are married and have to juggle and still do it all." But she added: "They're not going to field a candidate just because it has a Hispanic name. I'm a Hispanic, Latina, but I'm a Democratic Latina. I'd rather have someone who's really going to push Democratic ideals than just have someone whose Hispanic or Latina."
She said the party is beginning to recognize people like herself, but that Hispanic Democrats also need to demonstrate they can act independently. She should know. Last year, Mercado, a manager for the National Mango Board, ran a $64,000 maiden campaign against the powerful Florida House speaker, a Republican. With less than $2,000 in cash and $5,000 worth of in-kind contributions from the party, she won 40 percent of the vote.
