As you know Yo Soy Latino is set up as a radio magazine formatted show which allows all of us a chance to skim thru topics here and there like politics, history, sports, women issues, all current all topic all so very real.

Today’s show was as always promised straight forward and direct. YSL had its trivia, its fashion narrated by Jose as Haydee wasn’t there to lead the team in that scope of things to a discussion with Raul on wines under $25 followed by Jose’s favorite stogies and of course good eats and how to make that special dish for those you love along with the top movie picks for dessert.

Jose briefly spoke out on an article which appeared in “The Nation” magazine which highlighted a piece called “The Decade for Women” by Katha Pollitt which spoke about the struggle and the gains made by women over this past decade — the first Hispanic women to the supreme court of the United States Ms. Sonia Sotomayor, before that Ms. Hilary Clinton who ran for President of the United States coming in second and finally appointed as Secretary of State and last but not least, Ms. Sarah Palin being nominated by the Republican Party for Vice President of the United States. These women not only endured sexist cracks from both sexes they defied the odds.

Another conversation was an article by Melissa Harris-Lacewell associate professor of politics African American studies at Princeton University which brought out the discussion of what we lose when we call someone crazy for his or her political views, a deep discussion that will be talked about again for weeks to come.

YSL spoke about the passing of Sister Cathy Gormen, of Apopka, who some say was a “fierce warrior” for farm workers, the poor, and the disenfranchised for almost four decades. She will be missed.

Ah but Yo Soy Latino wasn’t quite finished yet and Jose brought dessert the renowned attorney of Winter Park Mr. Deon Long who is also running for a Congressional seat in District 24 who spoke about the tea parties, the far left and the fall of Jim Greer to hear more go to www.yosoylatino.us click on the archived shows and listen to best talk show in town.

Winter Beauty Guide
Tips that prove that beauty can outlast even the harshest conditions.

Cold weather usually means cozy sweaters, warm woolen mittens or gloves, hot apple cider and hot yummy chocolate. But it also means frigid temperatures that can aggravate skin and lately here in Florida we’ve been having our share...right? Well taking the right measures can mean the difference between a "winter of beauty discontent" and a dazzling complexion. While it's no surprise that sleep, exercise and a healthy diet will give you a head start in beauty, it doesn't hurt to set up your defenses.
1. Face. In this weather your face will need more hydration even if you're skin is oily. Switch it up with a cream based cleanser or look for moisturizers with natural complexion protectors (like vitamin E, cocoa butter and grape seed extract).

As the temperature drops avoid using hot water because it can leave your skin feeling tight and itchy. To combat this, wash your face using warm water only and apply a heavier moisturizer than you would normally use. To seal in the extra moisture, apply when your face is still damp, even at night. You’ll see a notable difference in your skin.

2. Hair. For healthy and sexy tresses update your look by going for rich hues of brunette or add some warm tints to your already blonde coif. Keep your strands shiny and protected by using products with silk proteins and apply a deep conditioner at least once or twice a week. This will make even the most lackluster hair glisten and bounce with every step but avoid over-washing as it can be a contributing culprit to dull, lifeless hair.

3. Be Sunscreen Savvy. Cold winds and winter sun can be pretty damaging to your skin and sun damage is irreversible. Make it a priority to wear sunscreen every day.

4. Protect your Lips. Many women forget to give their lips extra care during the cold season and the results can be chapped and cracked smackers. Your lips are not immune from dryness to wind, cold, and sun. Also avoid licking them and use an exfoliator to remove the unwanted dry skin. Follow up with a moisturizing lipstick!

5. Keep that summer glow year round. Use an instant bronzer with SPF. Adding a luminizing lotion to your regular foundation or body cream is also an easy fix. And, if you haven't already, now is also a good time to add a brightening serum to your routine. This will save you lots of time in the long run, since it will be working to make your face appear more radiant and luminous while promoting antioxidant benefits. The same rule applies for your body, but use oil instead of a body cream, less streaking and added moisture.

6. Change up your fragrance. Studies have found that scents play a big role in human responses to their environment. So, warm up to some sexy, spicy fragrances this season — lean towards sultry orientals or deep flowery scents. Spray the fragrance on to a cotton ball then apply directly to you skin in areas that tend to be continuously warm on your body: behind the ears, the wrists, bosoms and behind the knees, this will give a light scent with lasting results.

7. Very Important!!!! Don't forget your hands. Protect and indulge your hands with creamy anti-aging hydrators and wear gloves as often as possible, but when you do flash your fingers, make sure you have well-groomed nails.

8. A Radiant Smile. There’s nothing better than a beaming smile to make a good impression with friends or co-workers! It may be difficult to find time to whiten your teeth, but maintaining their sparkle is easy with the variety of tooth whiteners on the market — brightening mints, travel-size stain preventors or wear anywhere strips which will keep you smiling through all those meetings and crazy nights.

Tune in next week and join Jose and the YSL team as they challenge you think outside the box, that’s Saturday from Noon to 1pm.

Well, it’s the start of the New Year and the YSL team is right back in the thick of things. It’s been a wild and exciting year — a new American President, the first African American to hold that office, the emergence of strong political women such as the New Secretary of State Ms. Hilary Clinton, and of course the one and only Ms. Sarah Palin, and the advent of the Yo Soy Latino radio program. So, it’s a no brainier that the Yo Soy Latino team decided to share some great vintage moments, which wasn’t easy, concentrating on a few of the most memorable guests and shows from 2009 all of which have added to the success of YSL today.

Jose and Haydee shared the opening remarks. Then Jose covered some sports, trivia, his beloved cigars while Haydee dappled a little with fashion and quaffs, of course Jose had no clue leaving the door open for Haydee to poke a little fun with him.

Jose then talks with Haydee about YSL and of all the great guests that the show has been graced with. Haydee spoke of the many visitors like doctors, lawyers, stars Guest like: Alice Wang, prominent attorney who chairs the Esparanza Fund helping immigrant students, stars like Eva Mendes, Antonio Fargas (Huggy Bear of Starsky and Hutch) Chris Franco, Emmy award winner, director, writer, comedian, Erotic writers Lara Dien, Dora Edmondson. Journalist talk /show host Emmy Award-winner Maria Hinojosa. Just to name a few then Jose turned our attention to one of YSL’s first shows called 38thStreet.

38th Street is a nostalgic look to yesteryears with music and words to the streets of New York City paying respect to the loss of one of Latin Music’s sons and of a great writer who wrote for The Latin Times Magazine who it just happens was helped along by none other then our very own co-producer Haydee Ayala.

On another show we had a great interaction with YSL guest Keu Reyes, comedian, writer, Director of the upcoming television series “Latino 101” and one of our frequent listeners “Eva” and it was awesome, a must hear all of which can be heard on our website www.yosoylatino.us.

I could go on and on about our shows but that would be giving away your chance to join Jose & Haydee on this nostalgic look back and forward to the most progressive talk show in town so take a look and a listen to Yo Soy Latino and don’t forget to join us each Saturday 12-1pm 810am on WEUS.
