BALLET/THEATER...
Our very own co-host gave a tantalizing update on Friday night's performance of the Orlando Ballet's BAILAMOS! Haydee said, “BAILAMOS! was by far one the most daring and spectacular performance she’s observe in a very long time”.

“The freedom and openness of the performers was inspiring. However, in this sultry Tango performed by Israel and Katia you could feel the heat mount off the stage. The chemistry between the two dancers while they created such a perfect routine was downright hot! Another outstanding performance was the steamy rendition of Carmen, a different yet fiery dance routine which held the entire audience captive”.

Haydee looks forward to next month’s performance of the Battle of the Sexes (a face off between the men and women with non-stop action). That’s March 19-21 so mark those calendars. Let’s spread the word and raise awareness. Support those talented individuals of the Orlando Ballet.

Highlights of Today’s Show...
February 20, 2010
It was a warm Saturday afternoon, the best Orlando has seen in a very long time, when Jose boomed into the microphone a very heartfelt welcome from Yo Soy Latino and guess what? No oops, to start off the show only a super laugh-out-loud moment.

Jose spoke on trivia — the first wine auction being held in London in 1673 to how prohibition was repealed in 1933. Then he talked about Ms. H’s movie picks, the top great wine selection below $25 and of course his favorite stogie picks. Followed by YSL’s selection for a delicious recipe to Fashion to the latest inclusion of a health piece, all of which can be seen here within the Yo Soy Latino home pages.

YSL turned to a little culture as both hosts attended the opening of Orlando Ballet's special production BAILAMOS! Presented by Executive Director Juan Escalante and choreographed by Artistic Director Robert Hill, which Jose being the jock that he is turned graciously over to Haydee to explain as only she can — all the ups and downs of men in tights and pirouettes, which she found awesome and breathtaking. Jose, on the other hand, could be heard whispering that the Yankees baseball spring training camp was close at hand. Haydee’s piece can be seen right here on YSL’s home page. Feel her thoughts as she lets you know just how steamy was the rendition of Carmen, a “WOW.”

A switch back to other local issues revealed that Mayor Rich Crotty, was in the midst of trying to find 70 million dollars a short fall in his budget most of which appears will come at the expense of the Parks, Educational system, laying off over 1200 teachers and possible tax increases as well as some closing of PCAN clinics. The budget isn’t due out until October.

There were also some WTF moments as well — metro Orlando’s top executive for the Orlando Blood Bank received a 13% raise worth $71,000 dollars bringing her pay package to more then $605,000, not to worry she was able to offset that by laying off 42 people. Ann Chinoda who has been running this NON-PROFIT blood center since 2003 was unavailable for comment according to the Orlando Sentinel.

According to the Council of Economic Advisors (CEA) the State of Florida has spent more then $7.7 Billion Dollars of the Stimulus Bill and more then 112 thousand jobs were created who would have thunk it. Its the quiet dirty little secret that this mostly Republican state has failed to mention; and, while we are on the subject of hypocrites, this same party of “NO” who voted against the stimulus bill plus stated that it created no jobs and only wasted money according to “Think Progress.Org.” Over 110 of these stall worth’s have received or applied for the stimulus monies all the while talking out their other faces.

Jose also pointed out that State Sen. Mark Madsen of Utah was having a WTF moment when he was proposing a John H. Browning state holiday merger with the Martin Luther King (MLK) Holiday. Let’s see how this would work out — Mr. Browning known for manufacturing weapons of violence and Mr. King a man of peace who was gunned down at the prime of his life, not an ideal match.

Well these where a few of the things Jose and Haydee covered sort of just takes your breath away do take a listen to the tape and get a feel of the energy and the day and do leave your comments as we know Jose and Haydee would love to hear your take on things.

FASHION...
Smart Way to Fold the Tents!
February 20, 2010
After an 18 year history of fashion under the tents in Bryant Park, the show will move to a new home. But before it did, Tommy Hilfiger had the last word during Fashion Week — closing his collection on a high note Thursday night with a high-booted display of sportswear to well turned-out styles before a crowd of garment industry executives, celebrities and the A-listers.

After the finale, he stopped on the runway with mic in hand (I guess one could say he likes drama) and formally said goodbye and goodnight to an era which has set the American fashion industry on fire. Lucky for everyone the fall 2010 season ended on such a strong note.

Some of the clothes you can expect to see will be more menswear-inspired suit pieces; delicate, simple gowns; beautiful knits; to the country-club life so familiar to wearers of the Lauren collections, to sassy vision of the more serious silhouettes. Also, expect luxe parkas, black leather jumpers with knife pleats inset with black tulle, industrial-strength coats and dresses with pronounced seams and darts. And, some mixed textures and patterns as well as camel turtlenecks and a jaunty version of a mini-kilt, to tweed coats and the mini-dress.

Next season you can expect Fashion Week to be held at Lincoln Center.

It was great having you share this time with Yo Soy Latino. Tune in this Saturday from Noon to 1 pm when we meet up with Mr. George A. Roden, Chief of Staff for Mayor Rich Crotty who seems a little skid-dish in meeting with Jose. Let’s find out what’s going on in Orlando. Remember to come back next week to enjoy another hour with Jose and Haydee. Bring an open mind and that cup of coffee!
