Highlights of Today’s Show...
November 21, 2009
Today’s show was absolutely amazing and Jose appeared to be on top of his game. He begins with his usual monologue while injecting a little banter before presenting his first guest Ms. Eva Mendes who has been described as “she’s got a cool beauty and poise reminiscent of Sophia Loren, yet can banter with the best of them in the style of Katherine Hepburn while still being charming”.

YSL was able to catch up with Eva who after some warm pleasantries with Jose began the interview responding to Jose’s first question, “Since arriving to motion pictures you have played opposite many top headliners—extraordinary directors and co-stars. Tell me, what was it about this character FRANKIE DONNENFIELD in the BAD LIEUTIENANT: Port of Call New Orleans that attracted you most to this role?” Mendes replies, “Just what you said!” I believe it’s really important to work with people you admire and Werner Herzog is an incredible and prolific director and Nicolas Cage is an amazing actor unconventional in every way and I’ll like to do more and more films with him”.

But as the interview evolves Eva describes her character as being flawed. She’s a drug abuser and a prostitute and that for Ms. Mendes added a certain intrigue as to where did that wrong turn happen in her life which of course we can all relate to.

Jose goes on to ask, “What was it like to film in New Orleans, especially now?” You could hear it in her voice as she describes her day to day. There were moments that it was good and then others that weren’t, but you couldn’t help but admire the resilience of its people even though the devastation was deep.

After which Jose asked about her Calvin Klein ad campaign and the surrounding controversy. Eva answered, “she loved the ad felt it was tastefully done and it’s ok for everyone to have differences in opinion. We live in America and that’s how it should be.” The making of the ad for Eva was fun and empowering illustrating a strong woman who’s in control not a weak one. It merely was exhibited in a totally new and creative way.

Next Jose inquires about her bedding line, VIDA by Eva Mendes. What was her inspiration in creating her very own home décor line when so many have gone into clothing, fragrances, jewelry, even cosmetics? Eva expressed that she just wasn’t feeling it. She loved architecture and interior design which was her first love and that’s what motivated her to create VIDA. Ms. Mendes also shared that she will be expanding into dinnerware soon, make note of that as you heard it here first. Eva’s line is exclusive to Macy*s so feel free to check it out.

Also, she noted she had reached a point in time that she didn’t have to worry about money and was now in a position where she wanted to give back and help others and was looking into some kind of organization that she can contribute to like a woman shelter or something along that line to which Jose suggested YSL might be able to help her in that area.

Unfortunately time was limited so Jose thanked Eva for taking this moment to be with YSL. He appreciated her company and felt his audience enjoyed listening to her as well. For more on the Eva Mendes’ interview, please go to the achieved show so you don’t miss a thing!

Moving right along Jose announces Mr. Antonio Juan Fargas who’s most notably remembered for the unforgettable characters he created most famously in his role as the incorrigible and loveable 'Huggy Bear' in the 70s TV series of 'Starsky & Hutch'.

Jose asked what going on my brother you have so many brilliant credits from film some of which were 'Shaft', 'Car Wash', 'The Howling VI' and 'The Borrower', to Broadway and his countless roles in TV like ABC’s All My Children where he played the father of Angie Hubbard (Debbi Morgan) as well as other sitcoms. Where should I begin?

It was like watching an extended conversation between two old friends over dinner. The chemistry between Antonio, and Jose was not only engaging but lively. Then Jose asked, “Tell me Antonio for the kid that’s still living in the apartments in the Chelsea what would you tell him if he wishes to follow in your footsteps?”

Antonio replied, “If you want to follow in my footsteps you got to be prepared for the work and you have to love the alleged destination, be it stardom. Hopefully, it’s just to be alive and kicking it, while keeping the hammer in your hand because it’s yours for life. And remember there’s nothing wrong in staying home because you can still be a star. There were a lot of stars in my block and each was a role model, some went in one direction while other in another”.

Both Haydee and Raul got a chance to ask Antonio questions about writing specifically on manuscript submissions and Antonio responded I would be happy to review anyone’s work. However, I’m just one person so be patience as it will take time to get back to everyone.

The hour starting winding down so Jose bid Antonio a fond farewell but with an open invitation to return soon to discuss more about his production company, Granada Entertainment; a company which specializes in the writing and production of new film and television products. He’s currently working on a television series for British television. To reach out to Antonio go to Antoniofargas.com.

What an awesome show! If you didn’t get a chance to hear it LIVE you are urged to visit the archived shows section of the website and listen to today’s broadcast. This week guests interviews ROCK!!!
