Highlights of Today’s Show...
September 19, 2009
This week’s show was a blast as Jose eagerly goes into his introduction covering the nation’s news, then on to the NCLR 2009 Alma Awards with Haydee—a program which recognizes Latinos for their talents in television, music and sports. Followed by cool trivia, his stogie picks before leading his listeners to Fashion. One of the reasons listeners enjoy hearing the YSL show is because Jose Miranda is genuine and down to earth plus his melodic voice rocks over the radio waves.

Our guests for today are Alicia Ramirez of HOLA and O. Deon Long who’s running for the Congressional seat in District 24 currently held by Suzanne Kosmas.

Alicia Ramirez who was gracious enough to give us an interview in lieu of Mayor Dyer today spoke a bit about her background before explaining the HOLA program and how it came about. Originally, the Hispanic Office for Local Assistance (HOLA) was created by Mayor Dyer back when he started his tenure at the city and it was subcontracted to a non-profit organization back then. But because of fiscal issues, Mayor Dyer decided to bring it to the city department and invited her as a city employee under the Orlando Police Department to help him create the HOLA office”. Thus, the HOLA office was shaped as an agreement between Mayor Dyer and Chief McCoy.

When Jose asked what is HOLA and why should I care about it? Alicia replied, “HOLA is an office that services the citizens of Orlando. We work under the municipalities with municipal funds and we serve the residents of the city of Orlando. Basically the mission of our office is to inform and refer people to the services that are out there. We link folks to agencies and companies to anything they are looking for to make their lives easier here, basically a 411 but a little enhanced. We connect people”!

“However, we try to find out where the Hispanics are at these agencies. Because most people that call us, call with issues of language barrier so we give them someone who is bilingual who can actually talk to them. HOLA is not just for Hispanics as we do service everyone”. What an exceptional interview! To find out more about HOLA you can reach out to Alicia Ramirez or anyone in the HOLA office by contacting the City of Orlando, Office of the Mayor at 407-254-HOLA (4652).

Next Jose presents Ometrias Deon Long Republican running for the Congressional House seat in District 24. After some lighthearted conversation Jose dives right in and asks where do you see the future of the Republican Party, your party of ‘no’? Deon responded, “I don’t take your definition of describing us as a party of no but that’s one of the reasons I started my congressional bid. We want to make change and I don’t want to use the word change because you’ll have to define it and that’s gotten to be so cliché but we are on a quest to save America and while we save America we’ll save the Republican Party”.

There’s a slight pause then he continues, “Because what’s coming from the Democrats, people sure don’t want. And that’s why more people are moving becoming more independent. I think the biggest thing you have with this spending and just wanting the government to control everything and having one centralize bureaucracy and thinking everyone is going to work for that, it’s just not going to happen in America”.

Jose then proceeds to ask, “What do you bring to the table that Suzanne Kosmas does not?” Deon responds, “I’m running for Congressional District 24 and we have 5 or 6 Republican primary points to get through first”. When Deon goes to describe her he draws on President Obama and VP Bidden. “They’re faculty lounge guys and I call them the faculty lounge mafia. I mean they sit there and have an air of self-importance they think they can control and do everything. However, she (Kosmas) on the other hand is a faculty lounge mafia wannabe, a facilitator”.

Do listen to today’s archived show. See what we mean when we say Deon is poignant, confident, entertaining, and energized. Hopefully, he will be able to bring a revival to the Republican Party.

Haydee’s Slice of Fashion...
Think Glamour!
September 19, 2009
Designers are definitely working their transparency card this holiday season and as a result you’re going to be seeing a lot of sheer organza and chiffon applications, even dicey cut ups and very provocative designs when it comes to blouses, tops, skirts, dresses and pants. Still you can pair them down with other modest garments while keeping the look elegant and as Fergie would say glam-or-ous! So make a list of what's hot and check it twice, just keep it sexy, think glamour!

Here’s a hint of this season’s newest color palette:

Black is a classic and must have— blend with other colors (black/white, black/red)
An Earthy Byzantine Green
Buttercream or Nude.
Roman Gold which is an iridescent that goes from bronze to gold depending on how it catches the light.
On the bright side...
Peacock Blue
Kiwi or Pop Green
Plum
Midnight Navy

1. Though jackets are quite big this fall apply the “no jackets required” card think cardigans instead as your cover-ups du jour. Go slouchy, chunky, snuggly, sparkly, cropped, caped, long or lean.

2. Cocktail dresses are truly A-list. There are many designs out there that will give you that maximum impact. However consider those with sinuous lines or details you know will be on the “to-die-for” registry.

3. Add a little fantasy to your after-hours dress. Feathers are having a major moment. There is a collector's piece that's all soft is mink-colored in a silk georgette skirt and lavished with row-upon-row of autumn-hued pheasant feathers pair it with a soft knit add a wide belt, high-heeled boots or black pumps and dazzle them effortlessly.

4. Add some glee to your wardrobe with iridescent collages of metal fabrics in a dramatic jacket and origami-pleated skirt.

5. The super soft Cowl Collars are definitely big news this season.

6. And don’t forget the buttery black stretch leather lined with a stretchable fabric (a must) for the never-ending leg. Hands-down the hottest look of the season! Add a dolman-sleeved knit or a sizzling cap-sleeved cowl top and you’ll definitely be the one they’ll be saying ooh-la-la as you grace the doors of your company gala.

Glamour is where it’s at this holiday season. So when you’re hitting the red carpet of your soiree go ahead and make a grand entrance in your outfit.

Well that concludes our show for today. We hope you’ve enjoyed this hour with Jose and Haydee and the YSL team. Come back next week and share that cup of coffee with us as we bring you Cris Franco and Dale Reynolds, both charismatic entertainers, journalists and more. Join us for an hour of comedic run!
