Movie Review
Shark Night 3D — Rating: 3.0 STARS
In this film one can definitely swim in to the images since the photography is well done especially the up-close-and-personal look of the underwater creatures. Largely, the sharks — silvertips, hammerheads, gray reefs, whale and of course the great white — while still devoting time to the dolphins, seals, even the jelly fish, and turtles.
Despite being a film that is more menacing because of the subject — flesh-eating sharks — it manages to build from scene to scene, keeping the moments that will have you howling in your seat, even if that was not the intent. Plus, it does play a little on your sympathy. For example, who becomes the meal ticket for the shark in the lakes — the jerk or an adorable dog, the cute blonde or the brunette.
Nonetheless, it was fun, bloody (very bloody), and more often than not would catch you off guard still it did have some resemblance to the Piranha 3D movie.

About half of the oil production in the Gulf has been shut down as they prepare for the worst and hope for the best, says New Orleans’ mayor. 17-Year-Old Accused of Impersonating Hospital Worker
Kissimmee (WFTV) — A 17-year-old is facing third-degree felony charges after he was arrested on Wednesday for impersonating a physician assistant at Osceola Regional Medical Center, according to Kissimmee police. Matthew Scheidt is being charged on five counts of impersonating a physician assistant, a third-degree felony, policy said. Officials in the human resources department told police they became concerned about Schiedt’s qualifications when he continually requested access to restricted areas of the hospital. After checking into Scheidt’s qualifications, officials said they found that he worked for a surgical management group as a part-time billing clerk, not a physician assistant as he had stated.

US sues 17 major banks over Mortgage Losses
(Reuters/MSNBC) — A U.S. regulator sued a number of major banks Friday over losses on more than $41 billion in subprime mortgage bonds, which may hamper a broader government mortgage settlement with banks. The lawsuits by the Federal Housing Finance Agency, which oversees Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, came as a surprise to the market and weighed on bank shares. The lawsuits could add billions of dollars to the banks' potential costs at perhaps the worst possible time for the industry. The FHFA accused major banks, including Bank of America Corp, its Merrill Lynch unit, Barclays Plc, Citigroup Inc and Nomura Holdings Inc of selling bonds backed by mortgages that should have never been packaged into securities. Brad Miller, a Democratic congressman from North Carolina, said, "Not pursuing those claims would be an indirect subsidy for an industry that has gotten too many subsidies already."...There is more to this story this is merely an excerpt.

August Jobs Report: Hiring Grinds to a Halt
New York (CNN Money) — So much for getting Labor Day weekend off to a good start. The economy added no jobs in August, the Labor Department said Friday. Meanwhile the unemployment rate remained at 9.1%. Economists typically estimate the nation needs to add about 150,000 jobs each month to keep up with population growth alone. It needs even stronger growth to recover the 8.8 million jobs lost during the financial crisis. The White House said yesterday that it predicts the unemployment rate will remain stubbornly high, not falling below 6% until 2017.

About 14 million Americans remain unemployed and 42.9% of them have been out of work more than six months. Blacks have it the worst, with an unemployment rate at 16.7% — its highest level since 1984. The unemployment rate for Latinos was unchanged at 11.3% and the unemployment rate for whites fell slightly to 8%. Another 2.6 million people were considered "marginally attached" to the workforce in August. The last time the government reported exactly zero jobs added in a month was in February 1945.

Today’s Highlights
America is Mourning
By Haydee Ayala
September 3, 2011
Orlando Orlando — With the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attack drawing near, YSL host Jose Miranda asked, “Where were you when all this was taking place and what were you doing when these events were occurring?” Urging our listeners to call in and share their stories since many would rather forget then relive the painful memory.

Perhaps we should get back in touch with those feelings again. At best it will spark anger, disbelief, an indescribable sadness, hurt, maybe even outrage. But, it should also serve as a reminder of just how vulnerable we are as a society. More important, how for the first time the United States became a nation, united as a people.
Yet here we are 10 years later, a nation divided. Among the chaos, disorder, confusion and misinformation, that seems to be leaking into the public domain. Our politicians fail to see the causes of their actions and are quick to ignore the cries of its citizens — those very people that elected them into office. While millions are jobless, homeless, others take to crime and they continue to cut budgets.

In the meantime, they flood the media with dreams and promises of our forefathers and what they would do if elected. But aren’t we getting away from what our country was based on. A nation founded on God and what He stood for — “all people.” Not this nonsensical rhetoric these candidates are suggesting as being the basis of our forefathers.

Further weren’t our forefathers opposed to large corporations? Yes, they were! History reminds us of the East India Company as begin the largest corporation of its day. However, because of its dominance of trade it angered the colonists so much, that they dumped the tea it had on a ship into Boston Harbor which today is known as the Boston Tea Party.

Many of our Foundling Fathers were well-educated politician of substantial means and many owned and managed slave plantations. Only a small group was totally opposed to slavery—this was Alexander Hamilton and John Jay, then later John Madison and Ben Franklin followed suit. How is returning to our Foundling Fathers supposed to be better for America today, a country that has always welcomed immigration? The GOP continues to set an agenda that clearly doesn’t make sense?

They keep carving away at the collective bargaining rights, women’s rights, to suggesting that the federal minimum wage be eradicated, which, by the way, are set at $7.25 per hour. They make these little marks here and there convincing the public that they are acting in their best interest but are they?

Every time you let them to go forward you are forfeiting a little bit of your freedom one measure at a time. To say “no, that’s incorrect” would be an offense because slavery comes in all forms — debt bondage, bonded labor, forced labor (domestic or involuntary servitude), child labor until they have obliterated a good portion of the 14th Amendment. Think about that when you prepare to cast your vote on November 2012 and ask yourself does the whole far outweigh the gains. These politicians are not your friend.

Much will be heard about the new GOP hopeful Rick Perry and what he did for Texas or did he? After some research there were reasons that attributed to the job boom. One main reason is that people at the beginning of the recession (December 2007) were flocking to Texas in mass numbers. When any state has an increase in population particularly the labor force the need to add jobs grows faster. However, let’s not forget Texas is oil country so much of the recent boom is responsible for the job increases. And of course having more jobs does encourage consumer spending and as a result will improve its economy.

Perhaps the job situation was the result of Perry’s policies or not. It may have been that Texas is simply the least bad option in a search for a favorable money-making climate—abundance of land, greatest economic option, but it still has a relatively high unemployment rate. The bottom line is we suggest that you do not take everything you hear on their authority but do you own research and dig deep into your personal lives and see how these politicians have or have not been there for you.

This week’s YSL had all the bells and whistles of one powerful show. It was very entertaining, full of conversation and energize. But if you really want to get the full impact of the hour, go to our archived show and listen for yourself.

Making your Eyes Pop
September 3, 2011
Ever notice as you get older that your eyes disappear just a bit. Our eyes are one of the most important features of our faces so what’s the secret to huge luminous eyes. Start off by applying liner to just the outer rim of your eyes as close to your lashes as possible and avoid drawing the liner on the inner corner of the lower lid. A technique that has work for me is to start the line at the beginning of your eyelash growth or closer to the middle of the eye. Blend the liner lightly with a cotton swab to create a softer look.

Next, use a light shadow (white, beige, pale pink, you get the idea) on the upper lid next to the brow. This will open up the eye. Apply the darker shade to the fold of the eye.

If you weren’t blessed with long naturally perfect eyelashes, cheat. There are two ways to go about it. To begin you can apply mascara which will open up your eyes but before doing so consider using an eyelash curler to curl your lashes. A good trick is to blast your curler with your hair blower for about 3 second, test the metal before using it to make sure it’s not too hot then clamp down on your upper lash. Once you have done this apply your mascara.

A quick note here is that many experts will avoid using mascara on the lower lashes because they feel it closes up the eyes. This can be true for some women but for others it can have the opposite effect and can make a dramatic difference.

However, if you are not one who feels comfortable using mascara, consider individual false lashes. Not only will they help make you eye pop but will give one an exotic, gorgeous look. Just check out all the celebrities walking the red carpet. Here’s a hint buy natural lashes. Plus, you can find them in the hottest department stores like Bergdorf’s or at most drugstores. It does take a steady hand but you can master that easily.

The Benefits of Wine
September 3, 2011
Ordering the right wine can impress your bosses, your dates, and even your cardiologist. Here’s how . . . . Wine has so many health benefits you would think doctors would be prescribing the stuff by now. Drink a few glasses a week—particularly red, but white has benefits too — and you will lower your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and even cancer.

Wine’s magic ingredients come from the skin of the grape. Resveratrol protects the body’s cells, keeping them young and strong. Saponins bind to bad cholesterol and user it out of the body. Meanwhile, flavonoids interfere with the multiplication of cancer cells.

Problem is, buying wine can feel like an Olympic event and not knowing the difference between chianti and chardonnay makes it more daunting.

But, understanding wine is easy. It comes down to a few basic principles. So read on, drink up, and live long.

1. Serving: Serve both red and white at room temperature. A chill can mask a wine's flaws and strengthen the astringent taste of the tannins. At room temperature, the wines unique flavors — fruit, oak, whatever—are more obvious.

2. Decanting: Let wine breathe for 2 to 3 hours. Aeration speeds up the oxidation process that takes years to occur in a sealed bottle. This smooths out the taste and brings out complex flavors and aromas.

3. Tasting: First, give it a sniff, which primes your palate. Take a sip and let the wine hit every part of your mouth. You'll taste several flavors at once. The wine will evolve as you eat, as certain foods bring out different flavors.

Now expand your palate and be sure to keep good notes.

Gov. Rick Scott: Reaches Out to Obama White House
September 3, 2011
Florida (Orlando Sentinel) — Gov. Rick Scott has spent much of his time in the public eye bashing President Barack Obama's administration. But he appears to be taking a new approach. This week, he scheduled phone conversations with White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley, interior secretary Ken Salazar and Attorney General Eric Holder.
In an interview Thursday, Scott said the Daley chat was canceled. But he did make nice with Holder and Salazar.

"The goal is to make sure that I let them know that our goal is to figure out how to work together. Hopefully, they have the same goals I do," he said. "Anything we can do to create a working relationship."

He said he and Salazar talked about settling differences related to Everglades’ restoration.

"I believe we have the same goals," Scott said. "I want to figure out how to do that without lawsuits."
