Highlights of Today’s Show...

February 27, 2010
YSL had a great show it started with the cheery welcome from Jose and Haydee as they covered local issues like the tragic death at Sea World and what should be done with the killer whale. Then they spoke on trivia, fine wines for under $25.00, Jose’s Stogie picks with a special shout out to “Ol Times Cigar” located on Route 426 in Casselberry, to a fine recipe for “Pork Tenderloin.” And last but not least Fashion as it could only be presented by our seductive sounding Haydee on hot looking nails.

Until Jose presented YSL’s guest for today, Mr. George A. Rodon, Chief of Staff for Mayor Rich Crotty.

As you may be aware, there are many things that come into the make up of a show. For example, some of the preliminaries one goes through. You know like the hosts of the show speaking with the potential guest and getting a feel of a guest is much like a blind date.

Beginning with the first introductory phone call, which can be awkward and a bit harsh leaving both parties saying “oh no” there was some mix ups some things that where not done my people his people type of things until all was made well.

However, the amazing thing about all this was that after this rough first date Jose discovered as the interview progressed a very strong down to earth twenty plus year public servant who was not only a stand up guy but what one would call “Guapo.”

George was indeed a very different kind of guest, very open. He stated back in 1980 Orange county was born in what many would refer to as the City of Orange County under Mayor Linda Chapin. George would of course continue to serve in the administration of Mel Martinez and currently under Mayor Richard Crotty where he serves as the Mayor’s Chief of Staff.

When asked by Jose what were some highlights of his career he simply responded one of the biggest things was when he was in Puerto Rico and met the President of Banco Popular and the president asked him what could Banco Popular do for Orange County? George said without hesitation, "open a bank” and the rest is history said George with a slight chuckle.

Jose asked George given all this time that he has been involved what changes have occurred or not occurred in Orange County. George replied firstly that this was not the Orlando of old. At one point in this town you could count Hispanics as a rarity if you heard someone speaking Spanish you automatically turned around and asked where they where from of course a lot of that has changed.

Still he said there was a challenge here. Yes, there are Hispanics who have made it; yet, there are still many especially the young who struggle, who drop out of school, find it hard to get jobs and such it is to them he said that we must leave a legacy a way to succeed not just make it and just ride off on your white horse. He said you have to leave a trail in the sand for others to follow so that they will be able to continue to grow.

When asked what the current administration was doing to help the Hispanic community he replied that Mayor Crotty has a strong support for the Hispanic Chamber, the Hispanic Business Initiative Fund, organizations that support both Hispanic and Anglo alike, he mentioned a close relationship with the YMCA and programs with UCF.

As for the future of the Hispanic community he said, "He is the constant optimist who believes that the future lies in the diversity of the community which includes Anglos and Hispanics working together to make positive changes. He paused for a moment saying he may get in trouble for this but continued with the flow of the sentence by stating that those bad “Rednecks” which he said are few had better look out because in this new world things will be different.

There is much to this man. He speaks now like a wise sage who understands his work where he has come from and his life not just as a civil servant but as a man. You can be assured that when this guy rides off into the sunset on his horse people will just say there goes the “Hombre.” You can reach the Chief of Staff by calling 407-836-7370.

What Your Nail Color Says About You, or Not!
February 27, 2009
Your fingers and toes are in fact mini-indicators into your personality, or so I read. So here is a mini breakdown of what your nail color says or does not say about you.

If you usually have a French manicure, you are one classy, sophisticated and incredibly practical gal. You can always count on nails being neatly manicured, without going to extremes, and usually the look goes with every outfit.
Or if you prefer to wear mocha or a shade of brown, these earth tones mean you're a woman who is grounded, approachable and someone we can share ones deepest thoughts with.

Now for those gals who prefer pink. Pink is the typical girlie color, and quite popular for nails. If you choose a light to medium pink, you are friendly, happy and lighthearted. For those who tend to be on the wilder side, their selection is more on the hot pinks or fuchsia tones. Regardless the shade, these gals are known to be on the talkative, fun, and exciting side.

Are you the type that’s wild about red? This obviously is considered to be the wildest nail color of all. Women who love red nails are usually passionate with high energy, enthusiasm, and confidence.

And if your nails are naked according to this same survey, only 35% of woman paint both their fingers and toes. Therefore, the majority paint only one or the other, the most being their toes. There are a lot of reasons why women don't paint their nails; but one thing is true: having naked nails means you're willing to be your true, authentic self and show it to the world.

So whether you are prone to wearing nail polish let it be your experience alone. It’s how you feel at the moment. We are like diamond with many facets to our personality. It’s only natural for us to experiment. But no matter your mood, you're the one in the driver seat so sit and enjoy the ride.

As for next week, we will bring you another talented guest, Lizette Valarino. But for now take a moment have that cup of coffee and listen to the rest of the interview in the archives of Yo Soy Latino and meet Mr. George Rodon.
