The Kids Are Alright...
Review Summary
4 stars
The film centers on a lesbian couple (Annette Bening and Julianne Moore, two phenomenal actors) whose love for one another endures the challenges of parenthood while still remaining steadfast to each other. In the movie, Bening and Moore raised two healthy well-adjusted teenagers. Their daughter heads off to college their son Laser remains behind (played by Josh Hutcherson).

What made this movie intriguing was it portrayed family life not totally dissimilar to the ups and downs of any marriage but it added a different awareness, perhaps because of the circumstances, having parents of the same sex. As the movie progresses Laser demonstrates a growing curiosity a desire to uncover the identity of their father and does everything imaginable to find out who this mysterious donor was, not unlike many teenagers who are fixated in doing things their way. The Kids are Alright is a wonderful movie and given the controversy surrounding the Proposition 8 reversal, a must see.

I’m not sure honestly why I liked it so much, but I did. I guess it was in seeing that love does not have any boundaries. We do not choose who we love merely that we do. But it is through that love that we grow in values, family, and unity. Anyway, I gave it 4 stars.

Highlights of Today’s Show...
Interview with Mary C. Scott, National Correspondent
By Anthony Gaenzle
ORLANDO, Fla. – Haydee Ayala took the Yo Soy Latino reins in Jose Miranda’s stead this week. For the first time, Co-Host Ayala stepped in to act as the show’s host, while host Miranda was away.

Like the reluctant hero in an epic saga, Haydee rose to the challenge. She successfully orchestrated a well laid out show; responding to callers, interviewing guests, and maintaining the style and feel of Yo Soy Latino.

Journalist Mary C. Curtis phoned in during the second half of the show to chat with Ayala. Having recently returned from a trip to San Diego, California for a conference for the National Society of Black Journalists, Curtis brought plenty of energy and enlightenment to the show.

She stressed the importance of having “conversations across racial borders”, adding that we need to embrace our differences rather than fear them.

Curtis is a writer for politicsdaily.com and appears on Fox News Rising, based out of Charlotte, NC. To view her work, visit politicsdaily.com or theroute.com.

This week’s show also introduced a new segment called “The Sports Section.” The Sports Section will be a recurring segment covering the latest issues in sports, adding to the already diverse line of topics on Yo Soy Latino.

Fashion...
Fall Fashions – Moving in a more refine way!
August 7, 2010
The whole joy of fashion is that it’s constantly changing and that’s what makes it more exciting. We’re going to be seeing fashions that are powerful, sensual, very matrix with lots of fur even faux fur sheerness and leather for this fall.

The influencing pallet for the season is quite neutral. It includes different colors for fall, hues in camel, grays, all the colors of the fusias and navy in additional to your classic white and black. Also, we going to see a huge selection from sweat pants to luxurious evening wear.

Just like all imprints for fashion this is not to break the bank. Check out your wardrobe and make good choices when you shop (you’ll want to get something in print, leather or fur). Blend the new with your existing clothes. That will help broaden your choices. Remember just by making a few adjustments you can make things more interesting, while still strutting your stuff.

It’s one sure way of keeping your confidence high while looking fabulous!

The Sports Section with Anthony Gaenzle
NFL season about to begin –
Top 5 Most Disappointing Teams in 2010 (Based on expectations)
5. New England Patriots – Last season - 10-6 – 1st in division - 33-14 beating at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC wildcard game.

Reason for disappointment – Dolphins and Jets are no longer doormats of the division. The Jets will take this division. The Fins and the Pats will be a close second, but the edge goes to Miami.

Prediction – 8-8 – Just missing the playoffs

4. Pittsburgh Steelers – Last season the Steelers finished 9-7, third in the division behind Baltimore and division winner Cincinnati.

Reason for disappointment – Losing Santonio Holmes will have more of an impact than most people are letting on. Heinz Ward is still a solid receiver, but Holmes was really coming into his own and his loss will be felt. Roethlisberger’s off the field issues will really affect the team. He is out for the first 6 weeks. Byron Leftwich will start in his stead. Dennis Dixon, out of Oregon, would be a much better choice.

Prediction – 7-9 – 3rd in division – Ravens 1st – Bengals 2nd

3. Arizona Cardinals – Last season – 10-6 – 1st in the NFC West – Won a highly entertaining 51-45 wildcard game against Green Bay before being thumped 45-14 in the divisional round by the Saints.

Reason for disappointment – Kurt Warner retired. To call Matt Leinart a decent replacement is an insult to Warner. He is more of a movie star than a quarterback and his lack of playing time, along with his lack of intensity will spell disaster for the Cardinals. Fitzgerald is still one of the league’s top 5 receivers, but the loss of Boldin will allow defenders to focus more on him.

Prediction – 7-9 – The only reason they finish this high is because they play in possibly the worst division in Football.

2. New York Giants – (MY APOLOGIES TO JOSE) – Last season 8-8, 3rd in the NFC East – missed the playoffs despite high hopes.

Reason for disappointment – Eli Manning is highly overrated. Without that defense the Giants never would won Super Bowl XLII. This team is in disarray. Despite a decent roster, there is a lot of rebuilding to do, especially on offense. On paper they look good, but the Cowboys are too tough, the Eagles will be a formidable foe, and the Redskins have vastly improved with the addition of McNabb at quarterback and Mike Shanahan coaching.

Prediction – 8-8 once again, Tom Coughlin on his way out after the season. The team gets a makeover for 2011.

1. Minnesota Vikings – Last season they finished first in the NFC North, going 12-4 and later falling to the eventual Super Bowl champions, the New Orleans Saints, in a tightly contested championship game.

Reasons for disappointment - The Vikings have a very tough defense, but defense doesn’t always win championships. Stop Adrian Peterson and you stop the Vikings. Whether they start Brett Favre or Tarvaris Jackson at quarterback the Vikings offense is in trouble without their running game. Jackson is inconsistent and Favre emptied his tank on last season’s run to the NFC championship. Also, Green Bay is on the rise and will be tough to beat.

Prediction – 9-7 – Wildcard playoff loss at best (may miss playoffs) – Packers 1st, Vikings 2nd, Bears 3rd, and the Lions deep in last place.
