How to Train Your Dragon...
Review Summary
Let me point out that this movie is rated PG because there are sequences of intense action and some scary images, combined with some mild language. So parents of sensitive kids you have just been put on alert.

However, I thought it was an amazing 3D ride that’s sure to impress anyone and I mean anyone — both kids and adults. This is one film that adults can go see without the kiddies and not be ashamed. It is that much fun. Furthermore, it does virtually everything right and ends up being one visually impressive film. If you’re a fan of animation and of course Vikings and dragons, then this is a must see. The music as the dragon soars and does battle is phenomenal — a perfect combination of the story and the computer graphics. As a matter of fact, the dragon reminded me a little of Stitch from "Lilo & Stitch".

Simply put, I was blown away. I found myself quickly drawn into the story. Go check it out yourself. You won’t be disappointed! On the YSL meter from 1-5, this movie’s rating is a 5.

YSL is a good place to hang out with its awesome guests, lively chats, and a team of good core people. Besides, you just never know what to expect when host Jose Miranda comes on the air!

Speaking about the Arizona immigrant law as it continues to energize Hispanics and Democrats alike. Is this a setback for civil rights? Are law enforcers ready to don those white hoods? This law has raised fears in the Hispanic population whose number is about 10.8 million in the United States. Will Hispanics be racially profiled and actively hunted down? Or, is this law truly intended to discourage and deter the unlawful entry and presence of aliens? Then there’s that matter with Mildred Fernandez. These subjects and so much more will be the topic of Miranda in today’s lively dialogue.

However, before diving into this HOT area, Miranda turns his attention to co-host Haydee Ayala on this week’s movie assessment of How to Train your Dragon, number one in this week’s box office. On the whole, Ayala gave this movie a 5. It was her thought that you’re going to be delighted thru and thru. She describes the movie as being an amazing 3D ride which is packed with humor and fun, and, ends up being one visually impressive film. So what does that mean, a must see for all you movie goers!

Miranda then proceeds to discuss trivia, health, today’s recipe, and cigars. Inviting proprietor Alan Adamski from Ol’ Times Cigars to share some of this week’s most popular cigar picks with our listeners. After which he goes on to lighten the hour by sharing an article he discovered online entitled, 50 sex questions you were afraid to ask. Need I say more! Of course, no one can deny his job isn’t an easy one so who better than Miranda to bring out this saucy subject while detonating the chance for good comedy.

Finally, Jose moves on to introduce this week’s distinguished guest, Mr. Daniel Ramos, TV Host/Producer of Hispanic Speakout TV and Chairman/CEO of National Hispanic Corporate Achievers.

However, what made this interview worth a revisit is the amazing breakthrough Ramos and his team had in getting a bill victoriously passed which would enable Floridian Hispanics to express their individual self-worth — offering more than 100 specialty license plates that will support such things as the boy scouts, tennis, soccer, all the way to the manatees. This license plate is an effort to promote Hispanic pride. Though the Conquistadors are not what people associate with the word ‘Hispanic”, it will have an image of a Spanish galleon on it with the words Hispanics discovered Florida in 1513.

We would like to point out that Mr. Ramos can be reached at the following website www.hispanicachiever.org.

Highlights of Today’s Show...
April 24, 2010
Its 12:00 Noon and time for the Yo Soy Latino Radio hour as talk show host Jose Miranda welcomes back his listeners to another vibrant and most compelling program. YSL radio is always pleased to bring you the best in politics, trivia, fashion, movies to the freshest new talent weekly and this week YSL is thrilled to have Ms. Darlyn Finch — writer, poet, and author. However, before doing so Miranda turns to co-host Haydee Ayala for a review on this week’s movie pick, Clash of the Titans (2010).

Haydee admits she couldn’t wait for this movie to come out but 20 minutes into the movie her excitement faded. Although she does say there are a few outstanding actors that should be mentioned like Liam Neeson who played a convincing Zeus, though he had a small role, he did a lot with the screen time he had.

However, according to Haydee, this 2010 version of Clash of the Titans paled to the original. Overall, she exclaims there are some good scenes in the movie, a few laughs, and some cool fight settings that make this film somewhat entertaining. Although she wasn't a big fan having seen the original, she does point out that if you've never seen the original Clash of the Titans you may enjoy this version. On the YSL meter from 1-5, this movie’s rating is a 3.

Then Jose proceeds to discuss cigars as he invites proprietor Alan Adamski from Ol’ Times Cigars to share some of his most popular cigar picks with our listeners. It isn’t long before Jose makes ready to introduce the most charming poet supreme, Ms. Darlyn Finch.

After a few pleasantries between Ms. Finch and radio host Jose Miranda they begin speaking about poetry. Specifically her first book published in February 2007, Red Wax Rose, which contains her first collection of poems. Shortly thereafter and with the aide of Mr. Brad Kuhn, former journalist himself and winner of the 2006 Thomas Burnett Swann Poetry Prize, Ms. Finch begins to read from a second publication, a novella-in-verse, titled Three Houses by Brad Kuhn and Darlyn Finch.

The reality and true nature of this poem comes alive like a song and that is the wonder of poetry. For poetry is a language which tends to bring us closer to the mystery of what is, to healing a wound or broken heart, to an expression of passion or a newfound love, even to giving hope to go forward in life.

As the hour comes to a close Ms. Finch announces the upcoming 4th Annual Fringe Poetry Smackdown on May 22 and 29 at 10 p.m. Therefore, for all you poets out there, they are looking to schedule you! Bring your poems, your thick skin, and your sense of humor; and, prepare to be criticized American Idol style.

The following websites are where you can reach out to Ms. Darlyn Finch — www.facebook.com/darlyn.finch, www.myspace.com/darlynfinch, www.threehouses.net, www.shadylanepress.com/darlyn.html, www.amazon.com/Red-Wax-Rose-Darlyn-Finch, and kerouacproject.org/author/darlyn.

The Wrap Dress!
April 24, 2010
The wrap dress is the most precious and timeless fashion piece in a woman’s wardrobe simply because of its ability to contour a woman’s shape giving her that slimming waistline, bust-enhancing and hip-reducing outline. And what gal doesn’t want that hour-glass figure. It is the one style that when you pair it with tall stilettos can be worn to any formal event. Furthermore, it can be dressed down with a denim jacket and sandals or a casual blazer with low heels for the office or just going on a casual stroll.

Ever since Diane von Furstenberg introduced the wrap dress as a high fashion item in 1972, it was quickly adopted by many celebrities as the most timeless style in a woman’s wardrobe. Much of its longevity is due primarily to its flexibility and versatility. It is also the perfect outfit for pregnant women because it is comfortable yet stylish and unapologetically sexy.

Today’s styles go from lavish prints to solids. If you are only going to consider one wrap then selected the classic black as that can be your go to anywhere dress. There are several designers that have a pretty good selection — for example the Long Sleeve Wrap Circle Dress by CORPUS for about $40. Then there’s the Victoria’s Secret Jersey Wrap Dress for about $65. It is very sultry, with a deep v-neck providing you with plenty of cleavage, and made of a comfy cotton-spandex blend for that sexy look but not too tight.

Another is the DVF Pamelot Wrap Dress for those gals that want the spotlight on them. The cost of this particular dress is about $625. Its classic design gives a more elegant style adding pretty tiers and ruffles.

There you have it ladies, the epitome of easy elegance and the purr-fect dress for any gal! You can’t go wrong with having this item in your wardrobe.

Listen to today’s broadcast. Check archive! This is the place where guest have the opportunity to connect with our listeners and unleash their voice. Revisit the Classics!
April 17, 2010
Are you ready to revisit the classics? Well you should be! As you know this is an industry obsessed with change and in fashion there’s plenty. Designers are once again thinking about the past revising many vintage styles of the nineties. However, with a slight adjustment making the look more tweaked.

Keep in mind that this fad is just as modern today as it was during the Clinton years. And, for those gals who have lived thru the 90s you know exactly what I mean. So check your wardrobes and if your size has not changed during the years it’s time to reinstate that stylishness from the back of your wardrobe and restore them to life.

Much of today fashions will add elements of the old but it will have a refreshing new, tweaked signature to them. From day dresses to opulent eveningwear, you’ll see vibrant prints, long skirts and more. Add a new spin to those pieces by adding a cardigan for a pulled-together look. After all, how else would these pieces become classics if they weren’t beloved in the first place!

Looking for that great new Hair Cut!
April 3, 2010
Here are a few ideas that should help you feel empowered, liberated, and ready to take on the world.

Short Cut.
If you have high cheek bones a pixie cut is the most ideal style you can select. It will definitely show off your bone structure giving you that fabulous effect. Plus, it stops right there at the neck of your hairline making this an easy low maintenance style.

But if that’s not for you transform your hair by considering a slight layered bob...this will allow you to flip the ends and while you’re add it create an off-center part show a bit of your whimsical side. That will definitely make over the cut.

For you silver gals show off your bob by keeping your cut clean easy and simple...lots and lots of layers...add a little mouse and with your finger tips create the style that’s right for you while showing off the natural gray tones of your hair.

The hottest way though in my humble opinion is to wear a longer bob slightly angled and lightly-layered to your collarbone, with the longest pieces silhouetting your face. It’s low-maintenance but it gives you just that perfect look of having the best of the medium and short cuts.

Or if you prefer having just a sleek and short cut add some side-sweeping bangs another easy-to-style cut and works best on straight to wavy types.

Long Cut.
If your hair is long and wavy give shape and depth to your hair cut layers and to prevent puffiness start just above your ears.

Or keep it simple. Add bangs or simply feather not layer same as you would a pixie cut but keep the flow of the cut going to the full length of your hair. This will add bounce and give you more diversity. In other words, if you decide to push your hair back in a pony tail let some of the shortest pieces contour your face.

Medium Cut.
Are fairly simple...you can consider a razor cut similar to the feathering effect but having the ends elevated with a flat iron, taking this shoulder-length style from safe to sexy.

Remember, long bangs give extra style and makes it more versatile. You can wear your hair back or up and let the bangs hang loose.

In the final analysis what matters is how you feel with the end result...remember ladies it’s about you and feeling 'MORE' fabulous than ever!!!

The Spring Parka!
March 27, 2010
Last weekend Florida had its 51st 2010 Winter Park Art Festival. Ok, so you’re wondering what that has to do with fashion. Simply this! Though it was slated to be a three day event, it was cut short due to the wet weather conditions. However, for those of you who got a chance to see it when Mother Earth was shinning a bright sunny canvas around the Central Park area, you were able to catch a glimpse of the booths which had exquisite displays of clay, fiber, water colors, glass, jewelry and so much more.

Unfortunately when I managed to go, it was Sunday and I was not blessed with good weather. I was totally drenched from head to toe from the torrent rain that seemed to beset what I had hoped would be a dry afternoon. Thank goodness this is Florida because it gave me the opportunity of removing my stilettos from my feet and brave this showery day walking barefoot through the park. No. It not a sequel to the movie but it did inspire this week’s discussion on fashion.

The Spring Parka! It seems only natural to include this item as one of spring’s utility jackets because of the versatility it offers. Some of which are quite sexy on a gal, especially when a touch of fluffy feathers or faux fur trim the hood, or it comes accented with a striped scarf, which can add an element of fun to these coats.

Though parkas all share the same blueprint — a relaxed hood, a loose-fitting shape, a length that falls just above the knee. They differ because there are so many stylistic variations, from the ’90s-grungee feel of the army parka to the modest chic look of the one by Barneys in New York. Plus, in comes in a variety of fabrics, from a light parachute quality to those that are more substantial (heavier), making them the perfect transitional-fix outerwear piece.

In conclusion, the parka is perpetually versatile. You can wear it with just about anything. Like a simple trouser or jean in spring or something like a floral dress through summertime. They are so multi-functional. Enough to wear on the weekend meeting friends for a light brunch or when traveling, or just giving your appearance that casual look.

Bottom line, there are not too many outfits in ones’ closet that can actually do all that. Besides after my small episode at the park I realized it’s definitely a must have item, especially if you live here in Florida. And, from this observer, it’s one that I’m sure will become a practical and comfortable piece in your fashion clothing.

Highlights of Today’s Show...
March 20, 2010
Radio shows are a lot like going stag to a club for the first time. You dress up, smell and look sweet, and yet you just don’t get lucky. Well today’s show was very much like that first club scene where you should have it altogether then circumstances get in the way.

Bravely Jose made a bold effort to handle the board, guests and callers. But, like a mad scientist who’s left to man the controls having to deal with a zillion buttons and thing-a-ma-jigs following a year sabbatical invariably caused a few things to go amiss.

Still, YSL strives to give its listeners the very best challenging them to think and interact while creating a dialogue which we hope in the end allows its listeners to see multiple views on varying issues. But even with the best intentions one can still be afflicted with challenging obstacles.

This show requires a lot of facets to make it come together from information gathering, research, fact checks, and finally its presentation. Then, there’s the follow up so you can see it all over again on the website. It is a product of professionalism and a love of radio which is brought to you by its founders and maintained by the support of its sponsors/advertisers as well as its loyal fans.

In spite of its glitches, YSL had some great guests lined up. Beginning with the Independent Film Director Frank Calo from New York who is an award winning Sundance Film recipient and who is doing a movie about “The Latin Kings” a movie that Frank stated he has wanted to do for some time now.

The movie itself isn’t about one of America’s homegrown gangs but more about the processes of a young man wanting to follow in his father’s footsteps as the leader of the “Latin Kings”. And, that of a Cambodian female New York City Detective who strives to help save this youngster from his determined path to head this gang.

In addition, YSL also got a chance to meet an upcoming actor/comedian right here in the studio that’s been cast to play a part in one of Frank’s films, Fernando Martinez. He’s one charming and captivating individual.

YSL’s other guest was Jerry Ross of the Disney Entrepreneur Center right here in Orlando, Florida. It has been said it’s one of Orlando’s quiet energies and Mr. Ross is its leader. It was at this point that those buttons and thing-of-ma-jigs went haywire. For that reason Jose and YSL offer their personal apology for this malfunction and extend a welcome to have Jerry return to the Show.

Of course, Jose covered trivia, fine wines under $25, recipes, and cigars while Haydee reviewed this week’s Fashion. Then Jose spoke about the “The Heath Debate” and the racism which appears to showing its nasty head all over again in the guise of political discord but don’t just take our word for it.

What’s New in Eyeglass Frames
March 20, 2010
Teka Eyewear uses very eclectic materials such as buffalo horn, leather, aluminum and exotic woods to emphasize craftsmanship and sophisticated elegant styling. Their tagline philosophy is "Frames That Demand Respect ... Because You Deserve It." So it’s no wonder their frames won the ‘Best New Product’ awards at both the spring and fall International Vision Expo conventions last year.

They have an interesting new style for women. The TK107 frame with tiny stones embedded in airy rings on the temples. This frame is lightweight and appears almost rimless from the front. Other frames are more unisex, with simple horn or wood temples and plain metal fronts. Their frames can be found in most optical stores nationwide.

"Sober and powerful" is how Giorgio Armani Eyewear describes the 13 men's styles in its latest collection. Armani fans will notice that the line has returned to its roots, with ruthlessly precise shapes and pure colors. Color combinations are palladium with a black front, light gold with a dark Havana front and light gold with a horn-ruthenium front.

Other featured styles include an acetate plastic frame with a round eye shape and key-shaped bridge, in horn-green, horn-honey or Havana; and another is a 1950s shape in thick plastic that comes in dark Havana, light amber, honey, black, blue or dark orange. While these styles are designed for men, women can wear them, too. The new collection also includes a women's butterfly-shaped design in four color choices.

Boucheron Paris Express added four new lines to its luxury eyewear collection. This company, founded in 1858 by a French family dynasty, launched its first eyewear collection in 1994. This year's new styles feature wood, buffalo horn, gold and precious stones.

Four rim styles in nylon or full-rimmed rectangles are available for men and women. Sunglass styles for men in rectangular and aviator rims also available. Also is "Ava," named after 1950s Hollywood star Ava Gardner. Designed for women, the Ava line features four prescription eyewear styles in hues such as satin bronze and matte gold, and three sunglass styles in wood.

And then of course there are the new styles from Humphrey's Eyewear which include a stainless steel semi-rimless eyeglass frame for women. The frame is very lightweight for comfort, with a black front and a bold combination of black and white elements in the temples.

Other frames in the collection include full and semi-rimless styles, in stainless steel and acetate plastic, some with cut-outs in the temples and hinge areas. They feature lively colors ranging from red to violet-pink and patterns such as a wave design. Some colors are iridescent.

In a nutshell, eyeglasses are definitely a part of your personal fashion statement. Most frames are sensibly priced for modern, budget-minded buyers. Though it’s true you’ll find a vast selection by various known designers from aviators to oversized but each line will have their own stylish and on-trend collection. Just narrow your choice to the ones that compliment your eyes, while still framing the shape of your face. Eyewear should never detract from your elegance.
