Movie Review:
Source Code — Rating: 4 STARS
This film is very much like the trailer. The storyline is about a man (Jack Gyllenhaal) fighting against time to retrieve a bomb before it explodes. And as he searches for clues among the train’s passengers, he discovers his love interest, Michelle Monaghan, on board among the commuters.

You may see some DNA threads to “Quantum Leap” for those of you who remember the series and the movie “Moon” but, let me assure you it’s in a class by itself.

There are moments that were a bit confusing. However, despite its flaws this is one fast-paced thriller that's sure to give you a 90-minute express ride while sitting in your seat. The movie is brilliant! Totally gripping and unexpectedly moving. Genuinely a must see!

Shut Down Or Compromise?
WASHINGTON, DC (CNN, NBC, ABC) — The President made a rare appearance Tuesday to push Congress Members to compromise on a plan. Stating, “At a time when the economy is just beginning to grow or we’re just starting to see a pickup in employment, the last thing we need is a disruption that’s caused by a government shutdown, not to mention all the people who depend on government services.” He continued by saying, “It would be inexcusable for us to not be able to take care of last year’s business simply because of politics.”

The president also said, “What we can’t do is have a ‘my way or the highway approach’ to this problem.” “Nobody gets a 100 percent of what they want. And we have more than met the Republicans halfway at this point.”

Boehner, R-Ohio, on the other hand said in a statement Monday, “If the government shuts down, it will be because Senate Democrats failed to do their job.”

What happened to PBS lineup in Channel 24 Sale?
Orlando Sentinel — The public broadcaster announced Friday, April 1st that it was selling the TV station to focus on radio, which is currently pending approval by the Federal Communications Commission. At the moment PBS is working with other Florida stations to ensure the people of Orlando continue to receive their PBS show according to spokesperson Anne Bentley. WMFE will offer the PBS lineup for 60-90 days.

Jose Fajardo, WMFE President/CEO will continue to stay on until he is told otherwise. The buyer is listed as Community Educators of Orlando Inc. and signing the agreement was Marcus Lamb, founder of religious broadcaster Daystar Television Network. The purchase price is said to be in the amount of $3.5 million including a lease arrangement. $3 million is the actually sale price the remaining monies to be used for 90.7 a robust radio station.

For any one requesting a refund from the spring 2011 should mail their request to WMFE, 11510 E Colonial Drive, Orlando FL 32817 or call during normal business hours 9-5 M-F at 407-273-2300, ext 175.

Republican Senator To Take Away Salaries of School Board Members
Orlando Sentinel — Sen. Steve Wise, R-Jacksonville, chairman of the education committee is proposing a bill that is expected to kill Florida school board salaries doing away with all compensation but a stipend that could be no more than $100 per meeting.

[...]Cadle said Lawmakers might earn less but they also get paid staff and a per diem for each day in Tallahassee.

The Senate education panel is to take up the Bill, SPB 7234, at its 1:15 p.m. meeting Tuesday.

Gov. Scott (R – FL) — Has the "King" run a muck!
Wall Street Journal — The 2012 spending plan reflects cuts of $4.6 billion over the fiscal 2011 budget and Mr. Scott outlined more cuts for fiscal 2013. Ahead of Monday’s announcement, the Republican governor discussed slashing $5 billion from the budget, while cutting property and corporate income taxes by about $2 billion. In addition,

[...]Scott said the Agency for Persons with Disabilities’ ongoing budget deficit currently at $170 million had reached a critical point and needed to be address immediately.

Interesting! So his solution was to slash property and corporate taxes by $2 billion.

Hmm! Makes you wonder what programs or services WOULD have been saved had Gov. Scott not given the wealthy and corporations that $2 billion in tax shelters. Furthermore, as thousands of Floridians remain unemployed, where are the jobs after these shelters? Aren’t you glad you voted for him!

Today’s Highlights...
April 9, 2011
Orlando, FL — Today’s show was brimming with lively heated discussions! From start to finish, radio host Jose Miranda was on fire as he began the program with several hot button issues and searing rhetoric by the Republican Party. Stating we have accumulated the largest debt in the history of mankind, and this tug-of-war between the parties are out of control. When we go after women’s right, immigration, health, education and cloud issues with the Republican mantra then we are seriously in trouble. Any ambivalence felt by Miranda is over the direction of our nation. It wasn't long into his dialogue when he came under attack from a caller; and, as you well know arguments can flare when small disagreements are sparked, especially when the heated back-and-forth debate was not thoroughly explored by the caller.

In this case, it was over the controversial issue of Planned Parenthood specifically abortions. It appears that the public's perception conflicts on the amount of government spending in this precise area. However, Miranda made clear that disbursement for abortions are less than 3% and, upon further inspection, has been on a decline since it’s legalization in 1973. There is more to Planned Parenthood than just abortions. Nonetheless Jose reminded everyone not to take his word for it but to do the research, examine the data then decide.

Yo Soy Latino is a program that prides itself in bringing you the best of the best, which includes airing details that are accurately researched then communicated. We want to stir and encourage our listeners to call-in. So if you feel the abortion information was incorrectly stated, please let us know. We will be happy to revisit this issue with you.

Shifting gears a bit, Jose gave Haydee a call as she couldn't be in the studio for the airing of the show. She quickly joins in with some lighthearted banter before providing him with this week’s movie pick, Source Code. Then of course Jose puts Haydee on the hot seat asking her what she thought about the bill to cut abortion. It was her firm belief that no one should predicate what a woman should or should not do with her body regardless. That should remain a personal choice.

The hour came upon us too quickly and the one thing that can be said about the YSL show is that there is never a dull moment, especially when Jose Miranda is at the helm. Come back next week and join this dynamic dual for more 'hot mess' mayhem. If you would like to hear more on today’s broadcast, go to last week’s archived show.

Spring/Summer 2011
April 9, 2011
Stripes are big this season. That’s correct! The nautical look will be a dominant part of the Spring/Summer season, which is going to add a very crisp and fresh look to any gal’s wardrobe. Remember anyone can have a seaworthy look even if you never leave port.

Look for simple pieces in the red, white and blue family. You can still keep within the usual traditional feel simply by adding your own balance and style to the look. More importantly, don’t be reluctant to experiment. Pair a white jean skirt with a boat-neck T-shirt in navy or red then add a thick white or navy belt and finish the look with some Keds. You’ll have any captain on the dock saying, “Welcome aboard Matty!”

If a jean skirt makes you uneasy then consider a wide-leg dark navy jean as your staple outfit. Layer it with a white v-neck sweater over a navy blouse. Accent the look with some jewelry like a necklace made of red beads and you will have given that style just the right pop. Also, if the weather is too warm for a sweater, pull out a well-tailored navy blazer, add a white blouse with your jeans and you have an outfit that can be worn from day to night.

Whether you’re chilling by the shore or on a yacht or just staying close to home any plain outfit can have a nautical feel simply by putting on an accent piece, like some gold anchor earring or an anchor necklace. It’s a quick and inexpensive way to achieving this look.

Who knew this look would be so engaging!

No Fresh talks since NFL Lock-out
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The locked-out NFL players don't want to go back to collective bargaining with the league. They have now made a move to allow their former union boss to be present if court-supervised talks take place between the two sides. Attorneys for the NFL and the players held conference call Friday to discuss mediation with US Distrist Judge Susan Richard Nelson, who is currently deciding whether to lift the lockout. No fresh talks have occurred since the expiration of the previous CBA on March 11.

Grilled Skirt Steak with Fregola-Orange Salad
A Michael Schwartz’s favorite alternative to the classic steak and potatoes. His Mediterranean-inspired skirt-steak salad is a wonderful mix of just-seared slices of beef, cool and crisp fennel, chewy fregola (the Sardinian dot-shaped pasta) and juicy oranges, finished with a drizzle of briny black olive tapenade. When pairing with a smooth wine consider the spicy tannins and dark fruit of Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley.

Serving: 6 • Time: 45 min

Ingredients:
¼ cup fregola
1 pound skirt steak, cut crosswise into 6-inch pieces
1 tablespoon pure chile powder, such as ancho
Salt and freshly ground pepper
½ small red onion, sliced into ¼-inch slabs
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 fennel bulb—halved, cored and thinly sliced crosswise
2 medium navel oranges—peeled, quartered lengthwise and thinly sliced crosswise
5 ounces baby arugula
4 large radishes, thinly sliced
¼ cup black olive tapenade

Directions:
Light a grill or preheat the broiler. In a saucepan of boiling salted water, cook the fregola until al dente, about 20 minutes. Drain and cool under running water; shake off the excess water.

Meanwhile, rub the steaks with the chile powder and season with salt and pepper. Grill the steaks and the onion slabs over high heat for about 8 minutes, turning occasionally, for medium-rare meat and tender onions. Let the skirt steaks rest for about 10 minutes. Let the onions cool slightly then coarsely chop them.

In a large bowl, whisk the lemon juice into the olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Add the fennel, oranges, arugula, radishes, fregola and grilled onion and toss well. Thinly slice the skirt steaks across the grain and arrange on plates. Spoon the tapenade over the stetaks, mound the salad alongside and serve.

Bad Habits for your Heart
Everyone wants to have a healthy heart. Still, cardiovascular disease affects more than 1 in 3 adults in the United States. The good news is that changing some simple everyday habits can make a big difference in your ability to live a healthy lifestyle.

As the list is large we are only going to cover two of the worst habits for your heart and how to avoid them. If you are interested in reading more, you can go to health.com. The footnote below will give you the specific details.

1. Watching TV
Sitting for hours on end increases your risk of heart attack and stroke, even if you exercise regularly.

“Intermittent exercise doesn’t compensate for the time you sit,” says Harmony R. Reynolds, MD, associate director of the Cardiovascular Clinical Research Center at NYU Langone Medical Center, in New York City.

Why? The lack of movement may affect blood levels of fats and sugars.
Dr. Reynolds advises walking around periodically and, if you’re at work, standing up to talk on the phone.

2. Leaving hostility and depression unchecked
Are you feeling stressed, hostile, or depressed? Remember this too can take its toll on your heart.

While everyone feels this way at some point of the time, how you handle these emotions can affect your heart health. “Those likely to internalize stress are in greater danger; research has shown a benefit to laughter and social support,” Dr. Reynolds says. “And, it’s helpful to be able to go to someone and talk about your problems.”

A Look into our Government — Compromise or Shutdown
With no resolve in sight is a Shutdown inevitable? Also, is this really about fiscal responsibility or more of what we saw in the 1995-96 when Republicans pushed too far? What is this dollar figure the Republicans hold steadfast too and are not willing to disclose? What are the issues that remain unresolved if it’s not on “women’s health”, then what? More importantly, if a compromise is reached at what cost, what are we actually giving up? AND, do we fully understand what the signing of this bill actually means?

McKeon, House R-Santa Clarita claims that at least 99% of Republicans do not want to shut down yet when asked if he would consider giving up his pay during a government shutdown he reported stated, “Why should I?” Makes you wonder if they are out for themselves or the people who elected them.

However, if the shut down does goes through, about 800,000 federal employees would be furloughed many of which reside in the DC area, which means no pay until furlough is lifted.

All National Parks will be closed and Florida having two unique national parks in the southernmost points, THE EVERGLADES and DRY TORTUGAS how will we be affected? Tourism brings a large amount of revenue to the state; and, if these national parks are closed, where’s the revenue?

Park Economics:
Everglades National Park reported in 2005 a budget of over $28 million. Of that, $14.8 million is granted from the National Park Service, and $13.5 million from various sources including CERP, donations, and other grants. The entry fee for vehicles in 2006 ranged from $10 to $200 for bus tours. Of the nearly one million visitors to Everglades National Park in 2006, more than 38,000 were overnight campers, paying $16 a night or $10 a night for backcountry permits. Visitors spent $2.6 million within the park (from rafting to kayaking) and $48 million in local economies. More than 900 jobs were sustained or created within or by the park, and the park added value of $35 million to local economies.

As we all know history has a way of repeating itself and the longest government shutdown was during the Clinton administration in 1995 and 1996 when it lasted 21 days and paralyzed important government functions. Additionally, it cost the country more monies then the plan suggested. More importantly, it helped Clinton win re-election in 1996, making it one of Clinton’s greatest political triumphs.

UPDATE: The US GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN has been averted! Tune in to YSL next week as we explore what this actually means to you.
