This Week’s Movie Review:
Unknown— 2.5 Star Rating
Suspense, Mystery, Intrigue
Though I'm a fan of Liam Neeson, the "UNKNOWN" did not appeal to me. Despite Neeson’s comforting intelligence and wit, this film ends up being a rather dull spy movie—oddly enough because it does have all the elements.

There is plenty of action, the location is intriguing and the film has a strong cast assembled. Yet, there was something lost or omitted. Perhaps the writers fell asleep when the script needed additional rewrites. Nonetheless, the film was given a 2.5-star rating simply because it does not necessarily disappoint the moviegoer, but it doesn't thrill you either.

Highlights of Today’s Show...
Interview with Amy Mercado and In Studio with Danny Ramos

Orlando, FL — YSL’s host Jose Miranda kicked off the hour declaring, “Is Labor Dead?” and more importantly, “Should We Care?” Are we not paying close attention? The Republican Party has been putting all kinds of crisis to mask their true agendas. First it was immigration and how illegal immigrants were taking away jobs, now its strip union rights over collective bargaining followed by the health care issue on abortion, which of course has been a subject of argument statewide. Have the Republicans declared war on women, unions and minorities?

As soon as Jose announced the new telephone number at the station the first caller jumped right in to take him up on one of the issues, Ms. Eva. Eva expressed that she was tired of the Minnie Mouse things surrounding unions and benefits for most state government workers, though she didn't use those exact words. She opposes unions despite having a great deal of respect for them. Her belief is that workers should be able to handle their own affairs and not rely on the government to pay for their benefits.

Governor Miller, Republican of Wisconsin, has indicated that the unions and collective bargaining is hurting his state. Meanwhile, there are several polls out there none of which support Mr. Miller’s position. In fact the unions have already caved into the governor’s demands for workers to give more and local and national polls support the unions to retain there bargaining rights.

After that, Denis calls the show to talk about the progress of the Hispanic Achievers since Danny Ramos, Chairman/CEO, was on hand in the studio. Ramos who introduced the Hispanic license plate is now experiencing some difficulties with the very person who was hired by the group to lobby for the plate.

This individual rallied for the Hispanic license plate. Further, she stipulated that it would probably be one of the most successful plates in Florida's history — estimating generated revenue of up to $1 million a year in programs for the Hispanic community. Now suddenly is reversing her opinion; and, is lobbying to remove the very plate she supported.

We have almost 4 million Hispanics in the state of Florida so what changed her mind especially after she was paid to support the project then tenders her resignation to swing the pendulum in the opposite direction. Makes you wonder what motivates lobbyists, greed or the cause.

Next up was the conversation about what's going on with the Democratic Party, at least in Orange County, and who better to respond to that query then Amy Mercado the new chair for the Orange County Democratic Party.

Amy responded to the question with a resounding "the democratic party is still here, alive and well and changing." Jose then asked “What positions is the Democratic Party going to take on jobs...family...unions etc.?” Ms. Mercado stated “The Democratic Party believes as a whole that the health care issue on abortion as it pertains to a women's right be left to women. It should not be predicated by the government or the use of smoking mirrors on social issues. Furthermore, they will continue to be the voice of the working families whether it is on jobs or union issues”.

The hour came up so quickly but to hear today's program in its entirety go to YSL’s archived show and listen to the broadcast. Hear our guests live as they exchange dialogue. Well that concludes another show for YSL. Come back next week for more deep and intense conversation.

Punk: Still a Strong Influence for 2011

The punk look has been around for years, as far back as the 70s. Though considered an attitude not a trend by most is still a strong fashion style for 2011. However, the idea for 2011 is to make it less overstated and more about an overall theme—mixing the elements of punk with other seasonal trends.

For example if you’re going to wear a blouse, vest or jacket and pant consider wearing a studded vest or wear a studded jacket. The “stud” look is pretty cool. Put on a blouse that has some wild prints and neutralize it with black pants.

Also, while large safety pins make excellent jewelry pieces it can also be a part of the garment achieving a very hardcore and rather appealing look. Combine it with heavy boots and you can punk up any outfit. If you do that, it will come across as ultra-feminine with a very punk rock edge and who doesn’t have a bit of the dark, edgy side in them.

If you’re wondering who can wear this style, my guess would be anyone. However, it is most popular with the rebellious, biker, rocker, edgy and dominant types. This trend isn’t about being serious but rather about having fun and being playful with your look while still making a statement. So enjoy!

This terrific Italian-inspired meat-and-potato dish is on the menu at home. You can use almost any tender cut of beef—such as strip steak or tenderloin—as long as it’s sliced think; if watercress is unavailable, substitute mizuna.
Total Time: 1 HR Serves: 8

Ingredients:
1. ½ cup plus 2 tablespoons extra-virgin oil
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 ½ teaspoons Asian fish sauce
Salt and freshly ground pepper
2 pounds fingerling potatoes
1 large garlic clove, minced
½ teaspoon herbs de Provence
5 pounds rib-eye steaks cut ½ inch thick
½ pound watercress or arugula, large stems removed
5 ounces Parmesan cheese, shaved with a vegetable peeler (2 cups)
Lemon wedges, for serving

Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350°. Light a grill. In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of the olive oil with the lemon juice, fish sauce and a generous pinch each of salt and pepper. Set the dressing aside.

In a medium roasting pan, toss the potatoes with 2 tablespoons of the olive oil and season with salt. Roast for about 30 minutes, or until tender.
Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the garlic and herbs de Provence with the remaining 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons of olive oil and a generous pinch each of salt and pepper. Rub the mixture all over the steaks. Grill over high heat until browned but still medium rare, 3 to 4 minutes.
