Highlights of Today’s show...
Yo Soy Latino’s host Jose Miranda opens this hour by welcoming YSL’s collaborator and friend, guru of the People Power Hour, John Hamilton, Co-Host Haydee Ayala and the rest of the YSL team before dealing with a myriad of subjects wrapped around local and national issues to segments in Fashion, Cool Trivia, Top Recommended Movies to Jose’s best pick stogies.

As you know YSL is one of the most informal guest-host formatted show there is. You can speak candidly about anything. Today’s show touched on a matter which lingers anxiously in the minds of many Floridians as well as others nationwide—unemployment.

Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for June 2009 is currently at 10.6 percent. This represents 970,000 jobless individuals out of a labor force of 9,192,000 making the unemployment rate 0.3 percentile points higher than the revised May rate of 10.3 percent. Calling attention to the fact it is up 4.6 percentage points from the June 2008 rate.

What does this mean only that the state’s current unemployment rate is 1.1 percentage points higher than the national unemployment rate of 9.5 percent, which is alarming as it is steadily climbing and not changing course. The last time the unemployment rates were this high was October 1975 when it was 11.0 percent.

Our purpose was not merely to bring this fact to light, but to tie in our guest, David Vindich, a former ‘retired’ marine whose courage and inventiveness set him apart from other individuals in a similar plight. Though he does have an extensive background, it did not preclude him from losing his current civilian job.

Yet, it was his creativity, humility and energy which drew Jose to him—well dressed in the blistering heat, standing with a cleverly designed billboard while passing his resume to ongoing traffic and talking to anyone who would stop to listen, which curiously enough drew Jose’s attention to him. After a while Jose asked him to appear as a guest on the YSL show. Not to point out the problem necessarily but rather the uniqueness in managing it.

So if you’re looking for someone with a different approach to achieving his objectives and who isn’t afraid to put himself out there consider David Vindich, one man that clearly can think outside the box. You can reach David Vindich at 407-230-2887 or email him directly at dvindich@cfl.rr.com or you could send us an email to yosoylatino5@aol.com or host@yosoylatino.us and we’ll be happy to pass the information along.

YSL gives you a broad range of input, allowing you to form your own opinions to the various topics and concerns that affect you our listeners. So if you’re a victim of today’s economy, let us know. Drop us a line and include your email. We will definitely get back to you.

Haydee's Slice of Fashion
Styles that Last...
July 25, 2009

There are a number of styles that last season after season for example the classic black dress, leggings, floral prints, the gladiator sandals, and so on. Then there are those that quickly fade away—the baby doll tops and harem pants, those are just fads. To know which trends to trash and which to invest in can be somewhat confusing. Fortunately, fashion is already way ahead of the game. The Fall 2009 and 2010 collections have already been released—mostly outer wear: thigh-high boots, capes, caplets and cloaks as well as scoop neck dresses but the Spring/Summer 2010 designs are still in the works and guarded.

Here are few suggestions that aren’t going anywhere:

Off-the-shoulder tops or dresses. These are chic without being too revealing. Don’t wear too much jewelry with this look as it makes a statement on its own.

Exposed zippers are edgy and a favorite of designers. This trend definitely has a future. Consider the flash bow dress by French Connection and/or the zipper dress by Brian Reyes. Both are great looks that should be around for a while.

Other styles to shop for include both skinny and wide leg pants, cardigans, high-waisted pants and skirts, fitted blazers, belted waists, ruffles, tribal prints, sheer fabrics, and long tunics.

Which trends should you buy on a sales rack? I would stick with what will have more wear. But one thing is certain, it doesn’t look like neon brights, fringe details, studs, or harem pants will be making the list.
