Movie Review:
Bridesmaids — rating: 4 STARS
“Bridesmaids” is one hilarious film centered on believable characters. The movie is full of some pretty good dirty jokes, combine with female friendships and one wedding planning from hell. Plus, it is not a chick flick! "Bridesmaids" clearly proves that women are equal to men in all areas like vulgarity, sexual frankness, lust, vulnerability, insecurity and let’s not forget over drinking.

It is the female version of “The Hangover” but, with a cast of witty twisted sisters who come in all shapes and sizes. If you are not easily offended by nonstop profanity, and we are talking strong language here, then this movie is quite clever, sharp and funny. And Wigg doesn't play it safe but comes across as affable with a dangerous twinkle in her eye. Of course, let's not forget Maya Rudolph, Matt Lucas and Rebel Wilson's contribution. Overall, this movie is four thumps up and one satisfying cheer for women in comedy equality.

President Obama calls for Israel’s return to pre-1967 borders
Washington (CNN) — In a major speech Thursday, President Obama became the first president to formally endorse the United States’ support for a future Palestinian state based on borders that existed before the 1967 Middle East war. The president also acknowledged the need for modifications through the negotiating process due to conditions on the ground. In the past, the US has unofficially backed a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict based on the borders in place prior to the war 44 years ago in which Israel seized the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Golan Heights and Sinai Peninsula.

Parents React to Recorded School Fight
Oviedo, FL (ClickOrlando.com) — School officials in Seminole County said they are investigating a fight at Jackson Heights Middle School in Oviedo that left a middle school student with a broken collar bone, a broken foot and a concussion. This after a video (copy of which was obtained by Local 6) was posted online showing fight that left boy seriously injured. Police arrested the aggressor and charged him with felony battery and a girl who was standing amid the crowd was also arrested for kicking the victim while he was down. Presently, police and school officials deny more fights are happening in the school.

District: 4-Day School Week Possible
Marion County, FL (ClickOrlando.com) — Four-day school weeks could soon be a reality in Marion County according to superintendent, Jim Yancy, who announced Thursday that this plan would run Tuesday through Friday and there would be no half days. The only other alternative is widespread layoffs. The plan according to Yancey would save more than $4 million while keeping its teachers employed.

Veteran Officer accursed of Brutality by a Woman
Orlando, FL (Orlando Sentinel) — Orlando police are reviewing the conduct of a veteran officer (Officer Livio Beccaccio, 38) and Lisa Wareham, now 20, who suffered broken front teeth and an arm bruise before being arrested.

City-owned surveillance cameras recorded the exchange Feb. 25 of the two and a group of others near the intersection of East Central Boulevard and Magnolia Avenue. The cameras show Wareham standing on the corner in a black dress surrounded by several others. Officers, who were both on foot and on bicycles, arrive at the corner and begin directing people to sit down and move apart.

At some point, Beccaccio pushes a man with dreadlocks, and stumbles backward onto Wareham. Beccaccio then directs Wareham away from the crowd. Seconds later Beccaccio grabs Wareham by the arm and shoves her into the street using an "arm bar" technique. Wareham loses her balance and falls face-first to the pavement. When she sits up, she is grabbing her mouth, the video shows. Wareham then dialed 911 to complain she was injured and that’s when she was arrested.

Beccaccio wrote in an arrest report that he "pushed Wareham back in an effort to both create distance from her and I, and to prevent her from attacking [the other man]. Wareham stumbled forward and fell to the pavement." She is facing three charges, including battery on a law-enforcement officer, a felony.

Today’s Highlights...
Interview with Dr. Richard Lotenfoe
by Haydee Ayala
May 21, 2011
FL — The dialogue was great and the chemistry inside the studio incredible! YSL host Jose Miranda once again delivered a suitcase filled with mayhem. Miranda zoomed right in to a discussion of the week’s top breaking news.

Opening with a conversation of the political news about the “King” (Gov. Rick Scott) who signed into law an arguable elections bill, which under this new law voters moving within a county will still be able to cast regular ballots. However, those moving from one county to another will be forced to cast “provisional” ballots, which studies show are much more likely to be tossed when being counted by the election boards. Color it any way you can but the “King” has made his position clear, posturing himself the potter and chiseling away at your natural rights — those civil liberties which are considered to be self-evident and universal; and, should not be contingent upon the laws.

Then Miranda goes on to discuss the violent bullying incident involving a veteran Orlando law enforcement officer (Officer Livio Beccaccio) who "allegedly" according to video surveillance stands accused of using brute force against a woman, followed by another vicious assault — an attack on an Oviedo middle school student which left him with a broken collar bone, a broken foot and a concussion. And, a school board that at the moment is looking into the matter. Was this after a video surfaced and Local 6 acquired a copy of this video which set off an entire community ablaze? That remains to be seen.

Though many topics are discussed on the program, some of which are meant strictly for entertainment while others are meant to inspire, to really dig deep and look at what is going on around you. YSL host Jose Miranda and Haydee Ayala strive to deliver critical information each week to their listeners and readers. Every show begins with a review and comments on the news of the week and today’s show typifies it. So whatever affects our community will be aired on the Yo Soy Latino radio show and transferred on to the web site.

Miranda then proceeds to have a one-on-one chat with Alan from Ol’ Times Smoke Shop in Casselberry, FL. Talking about what's new in the world of cigars before introducing YSL's guest for this week, Dr. Richard Lotenfoe.

And as we approach the final 20 minutes of the show, Jose gave a warm welcome to Dr. Richard Lotenfoe, M.D. But before going straight into the interview he eases him into a conversation by sharing a short tale involving his dad’s consultation with an urologist, which of course added a little levity to this serious topic.

Dr. Lotenfoe is one of the leading urologists in the country and a teacher in this field. He specializes in minimally invasive and non-invasive procedures for prostate cancer and benign prostatic. As a frontrunner in urological surgical techniques, Dr. Lotenfoe was gracious enough to come on the air to offer information about prostate cancer since a good percentage of our listeners are unaware of the risk factors or ignore early detection of this deadly disease, especially within the Latino community.

Dr. Lotenfoe — a Board Certified Urological Surgeon in Celebration, FL— informed us that one in six men will have prostate cancer. In fact, Dr. Lotenfoe goes on to say that the treatment of this disorder has changed drastically over the years. With the introduction of new and more effective drugs to the use of laser devices all of which improve the treatment of prostate cancer in less severe cases rather than the alternative the removing the prostate or giving radiotherapy. When asked what causes it he responded stress, smoking, diet, even genetics. Perhaps with this critical information it will make screening more attractive to individuals who might have symptoms but are reluctant to follow through with their doctor.

IN CLOSING, we would like to say that most of Dr. Lotenfoe’s patients are not just men but women also come to his office for other issues like kidney stones. Further, Dr. Lotenfoe together with the Rotary Club of Orlando offer free cancer screening for anyone who does not have the means or medical insurance. These events are usually announced on the web site or on radio, like Yo Soy Latino.

There is so much to this gentle surgeon from his easy going demeanor to his passion of helping others. If you wish to reach out to Dr. Lotenfoe, go to www.orlandoprostatecancer.com then go to info on the page you can make whatever inquiries there and someone will contact back. In addition he is also reachable on drlotenfoe.com. And, if you missed this week’s show you can still listen to it either by going to ustreamtv.com or going to our archived shows on the YSL website.

Shows like Yo Soy Latino are made possible through your generosity and of course sponsors who continue to support us. So if you want good quality radio programming to continue we ask that you go to our website and donate.

We look forward to seeing you back here next week with your cup of coffee in hand for some more entertaining and informative dialogue.

Stylish Pencil Skirts
May 21, 2011
What make this skirt very appealing are its ranges! It can go from skimpy to modest fashion and can be as simple as any single piece of material. Here are several variations to the stylish pencil skirts.

The original Pencil Skirt works for any body type. Furthermore, it is ideal for the curvier figured lady. Its tapered style bottom works to highlight lower body curves while the length is slightly below the knee.

Then there’s the A-Line Pencil Skirts. These skirts are usually asymmetrical with an uneven hemline, which makes one side longer than the other. Also, it is neither too tight nor loose and its purpose basically is to conceal part of the legs.

The A-line Skirt, however, will hug perfectly around the hips but will flow out near the bottom, providing a fuller shape similar to the letter A. This is best for ladies with bigger hips or thighs because the cut prevents the fabric from clinging.

Next is the Tube Skirt! This particular skirt is quite similar to the pencil. Except that it is slightly longer, stopping right before the ankle. Of course shorter versions are not rare. This fashion is just right for the lady with a wider top but a smaller bottom.

Now with the Column Skirt this is great for the tall and leggy ladies because it lengthens the body line. However, it can also be used by women who have very narrow hips or rounded figures. Typically the long length helps to conceal big ankles.

Although there are some variations of the pencil skirt it has been a part of women’s trendy clothing for decades. These skirts are classic!

Halibut with Mixed Beans and Lemon-Butter Sauce
This is one beautifully executed pan-roasted halibut. It’s beautifully firm and it gets so nicely golden when you sear it and add the tangy lemon-butter sauce. The lemons brighten up the halibut. Because the sauce is light on this halibut turn to a lively Chardonnay from a cool climate, like Oregon’s Columbia Valley.

Serving: 8 • Time: 1 HR

Ingredients:
2 pounds fresh cranberry beans, shelled (2 cups)
4 garlic cloves – 2 whole, 2 minced
3 thyme sprigs, plus 1 teaspoon chopped thyme
2 pounds fresh fava beans, shelled (2 cups)
½ pound haricots verts
½ pound sugar snap peas
1 cup thawed frozen baby peas
1 stick plus 6 tablespoons (7 ounces) unsalted butter, 12 tablespoons cubed and chilled
2 shallots, minced
1 cup dry white wine
1 cup chicken stock
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
Salt and freshly ground pepper
2 tablespoons canola oil
Eight 1-inch thick skinless halibut fillets (6 to 7 ounces each)

Directions:
Bring 2 medium saucepans of water to a boil and prepare a large bowl of ice water. Add the cranberry beans, whole garlic cloves and thyme sprigs to one saucepan and simmer over moderate heat until the beans are tender, about 30 minutes. Drain the beans and discard the garlic and thyme. Wipe out the saucepan and return the beans to it.

Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 425°. Add the fava beans to the second saucepan of boiling water and cook for 5 minutes. Using a slotted spoon transfer the favas to the ice water to cool.

Add the haricots verts to the boiling water and cook until crisp-tender, about 4 minutes. Using a slotted spoon transfer the haricots verts to the ice water to cool and add the sugar snaps to the boiling water and cook for 2 minutes. Drain and add them to the ice water. Drain all the beans and peas and pat dry; pop the favas out of their outer skins. Add the beans, sugar snaps and baby peas to the cranberry beans.

Wipe out the medium saucepan and melt the 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the shallots and minced garlic and cook over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, until softened. Add the wine and cook until nearly evaporated, about 10 minutes. Add the chicken stock and cook until reduced to 1/4 cup, about 6 minutes. Reduce the heat to moderately low and whisk in the cubes of cold butter, a few at a time, until a creamy sauce forms. Add 1 tablespoon of the lemon juice and season the sauce lightly with salt and pepper. Pour all but 1/4 cup of the butter sauce over the vegetables and keep warm.

Heat the oil in a very large ovenproof skillet. Pat the halibut dry and season with salt and pepper. Add the fillets to the skillet and cook over high heat until lightly browned, about 3 minutes. Transfer the skillet to the oven and cook until the halibut is almost opaque throughout, about 5 minutes. Carefully turn the fillets. Add the remaining butter sauce to the skillet with the remaining 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and the chopped thyme. Cook over moderate heat just until the sauce is bubbling and the fish is just cooked through. Transfer the halibut fillets to plates and spoon the lemon-butter sauce on top. Garnish with the micro-greens and serve with the beans.
MAKE AHEAD The recipe can be prepared through Step 3 one day ahead. Refrigerate the vegetables; let return to room temperature before proceeding.

Top Natural Remedies for Hair Loss
The following five tips will help you prevent hair loss, without risking any of the negative side effects associated with drugs:

1. Drink tea — Try drinking a few cups of nettle tea each day. Nettle contains ingredients that help inhibit the conversion of testosterone into DHT, which is the primary cause of hair loss in men and also effects women — especially as they go into menopause and their estrogen levels decrease. Nettle tea is cheap and is available in most health food stores and supermarkets. If possible, go for organic, because it will contain more nutrients. Another suggestion is herbal teas that help improve circulation or relieve stress. Stress and reduced circulation are also major causes of hair loss.

2. Get scalp massages — Increasing blood circulation in the scalp is a good way to boost hair growth. Products like Rogaine work by increasing circulation in the scalp but you can achieve similar results by just massaging your scalp. One way to fit this into your schedule is to brew a cup of herbal tea and sit down for 10 minutes to massage your scalp while your tea cools. When massaging, push your fingers into your skin and move the skin without sliding your fingers over the surface.

3. Use relaxation techniques — Stress is a major cause of hair loss. To keep your stress levels down, make sure you get a good 7-9 hours sleep every night, exercise regularly and follow a diet high in nutrients. That means eating green leafy vegetables, high quality lean meats and the least amount of processed food possible.

4. Switch to organic hair care products — Most shampoos sold in supermarkets contain chemicals like sodium laurel sulphate. With years of use it’s thought that these chemicals can damage the hair and adversely affect the health of the hair from the roots. It’s also possible that products like gels and waxes block the pores in the scalp, which may hinder the growth of follicles. To avoid these problems, switch to organic hair care products made with natural and nutritious ingredients that actually feed your hair rather than damaging it. Generally speaking, if a hair care product is made from organic ingredients, it’s likely to be high quality.

5. Cleanse your body — If you’ve never cleansed your digestive system there’s a good chance you need to. Our bodies are designed to eat fresh organic raw vegetables and fruit, supplemented with fresh meat when it’s available. Today, however, most people tend to eat a lot of processed food, sugary food, breads, and many people eat meat almost every day. The result is a sluggish, poorly performing digestive system. Cleansing your digestive organs can only help improve your health and your body’s ability to assimilate nutrients. Your hair needs nutrients to grow and internal cleansing can help your body deliver them more abundantly.

Gov. Scott signs Contentious Election Law which Limits Early Voting Days
TALLAHASSEE (PalmBeachPost) — Ignoring the objections of critics, Gov. Rick Scott signed into law Thursday a contentious elections bill, which almost certainly will be headed to court.

Opponents of the new law, including the League of Women Voters, civil rights organization and Democrats, contend it is designed to cripple Democratic voters in the next year’s presidential election in swing-state Florida, considered a must-win by both parties.

The sweeping elections package shrinks the number of early voting days, forces voters to cast provisional ballots if they move between counties and fail to change their address before Election Day and imposes new regulations on voter groups considered the most restrictive in the nation.

The new law shrinks from 10 days to 48 hours the time in which third-party groups must submit registration forms to supervisors and requires that each person who signs up voters be registered with the state or face fines up to $1,000.

Kurt Browning addressed reporters in an attempt to calm what Brown called an overreaction to the new law said, I believe it’s a good bill.” Indicating when you start looking at the details of the bill it doesn’t negatively impact Florida voters. Meanwhile, Sen. Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, the Senate sponsor, said the law is necessary to cut back on voter fraud. Which Browning corrected saying that fraud is not an issue in Florida elections but that the new law was rather “proactive.”

The law eradicates a four-decade old policy of allowing voters to change their address at their new precinct during early voting or on Election Day.

Under the new law, voters moving within a county will still be able to cast regular ballots. But those moving from one county to another will be forced to cast “PROVISIONAL” ballots, which studies show are much more likely to be TOSSED when being counted by canvassing boards.
