Highlights of Today’s Show...
November 7, 2009
It’s no wonder the Yo Soy Latino Radio show is increasingly becoming the best talk radio in Florida. The studio was just a humming, the banter fun and exciting. What a great way to start your Saturday afternoon!
Jose begins with his customary greeting, followed by the national news, trivia, movies and new releases, stogie picks, then sprinkles an OOOO-lala oh that is so French to today’s wine selections. Afterwards, turns his attention to Haydee for some fashion suggestions.
After a brief intermission, Jose then gives a gracious warmhearted welcome to the one and only Dr. Letitia Wright who graciously agreed to return to the Yo Soy Latino show. Since Dr. Wright’s last visit her show The Wright Place™ TV Show, now in its 10th season, has developed into the fastest growing television show about business on the air.
What is more, Dr. Wright has co-authored, “The Power of Mentorship for Creating Wealth”, “The Power of Mentorship for the Woman Entrepreneur”, “Power of Mentorship for Passion and The Power of Mentorship to Create Wealth” in addition to being the producer of a new film, “The Power of Mentorship Movie”.
Though Letitia has garnered many awards and has ranked #33 on the 50 Most Influential Women in Social Media, it has not changed her optimistic and energetic spirit. She remains as charming and delightful as ever. As the interview continued Dr. Wright in reflection speaks lovingly of her maternal grandmother who was instrumental in cultivating her time-management talents at an early age, which today has proven to be invaluable and the driving force behind her determination to succeed.
As the hour moved forward, Jose presented Dr. Wright with yet another question, “What is Pomwe?” and she replied, “The Power of Mentorship for Women Entrepreneurs”! This was a focus on women creating a forum where they can gather and get information needed to start their own businesses, which later encouraged her book, “The Power of Mentorship for Women Entrepreneurs”.
Jose then presents Dr. Wright with a situation. A young girl in high school about 15-16 of age who’s just starting out and looking on to her college years has an idea and is looking to get a business off the ground. What would you recommend?
Dr. Wright explains that anybody young who’s starting to think about an idea and they just don’t have all the necessary resources available to them should first look at their idea. Does the idea have merit? Is there a market for it? Are they truly passionate about it? In other words, do they have the excitement to make it happen? It should be a thought that can be bought to fruition. Otherwise it remains a thought.
Then connect with someone who can mentor you but make sure this is something you’re going to enjoy and remain with. Also, know your perfect market, i.e., if it’s a woman who drives a Camaro and makes $45K then that’s your market. You’re still going to get both, men and women. But it’s important that you know your target audience so that you are not wasting precious time and dollars.
This show was electrifying! If you didn’t get a chance to hear it LIVE go to our archived shows and listen also share your comments plus leave your email address for future mailings of what’s to come on the Yo Soy Latino show. Also, if you need to reach Dr. Wright you can reach her at wrightplacetv.com. Feel free to email, write, or call her at 01 909-635-2040.

Update Your Fall Wardrobe with Accessories
November 7, 2009
Don't let the economy get you down. If you are on a limited budget like most of us, it doesn't mean you can't look fabulous. With these five basic accessories, you can update your wardrobe without spending a bundle.
Mixed Metals Necklace. No one says you have to wear diamonds and pearls to look good. This season a bold statement necklace can really update your whole look. Choose fashion jewelry, including bib necklaces, big pendants and chunky beads. Another terrific trend is mix metal jewelry. These chunky necklaces in mixed metals usually are under $100.
Skinny Belt. A belt can pull together your whole look. Get a skinny belt and wear it over everything from ruffled blouses to fitted blazers to slouchy sweaters. You can find faux patent belts for under $10 anywhere.
Snakeskin Handbag. Snakeskin is one of the hottest and dangerously stylish exotic skins blends of the season and this handbag can complement almost any outfit. You can carry a snakeskin bag with everything from a simple black dress to jeans and a sweater. Other colors like purple and yellow works surprisingly well as well especially with a lot of colors including black, grey, brown, navy, green and several other fall colors. No matter the choice pick a bag that works with the staples in your wardrobe.
Ankle Boots are versatile and fun. Of course, there are several varieties just pick the one that best accents your wardrobe. And don’t forget the Bakers Sandal. We live in Florida so you’ll still be able to wear these sexy and hot sandals in faux-leather through the season.
The Fedora is back this season and you don't have to spend a fortune to buy one. Look for a Fedora at your local thrift shop, where you can find great bargains on vintage clothes. Macy's also offers several fedoras that are really cute and cheap, including this version by Nine West for just $36.
Also, shop the sales. It may seem obvious, but if you want to save money on accessories, keep a look out for sales. In addition to flyers in your local newspaper, visit the websites of your favorite department stores and sign up for sales alerts by email. So you’ll be able to go from sporty to flashy easily because each accessory adds a hint of rebellion to the boldest styles.
Next week prepare yourself as Jose and Haydee and the YSL team return with yet another lively and entertaining broadcast. Their guests will be Jim West a popular and well sought after therapist and Dr. Dale Salatich a brilliant surgeon in the area of dermatology.
Join YSL as they chat with Mr. West about unique ways of connecting with our young adults; and, Dr. Salatich who has spent many years in the medical trenches, dealing with the glories and the disasters of our health care system. So come back next week and share that cup of coffee with Jose and the crew.

Highlights of Today’s Show...
October 31, 2009
YSL’s talk show host Jose Miranda begins with his welcoming monologue covering much of the national and local news, then goes to trivia, the top ten movies and new releases. After that he injects a little levity before proceeding to his favorite stogie picks, followed by today’s wine selections, and of course the recipe of the day, Stuffed Potato Balls (Papas Rellenas), which left the YSL team hungry for this mouth watering dish. If you wish to create this tasty side dish, it will be on the website.
Today’s show had an intriguing element to it as YSL uncovered the underlying issues relating to the Coalition of Immokalee Workers as they prepare to protest in front of Publix supermarkets Saturday and Sunday. Gerardo Reyes, a representative for the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) indicated that they are a group of tomato pickers and growers who work for a company in south Florida. And, for the past 30 years all the tomatoes produced in this state are paid by the bucket, for example a 32 pound bucket pays 40-45 cents which is the same compensation since 1979. That’s 30 years of stagnant wages!
Jose then asked if the majority of their membership is mostly Hispanics. To which Mr. Reyes replied, “Their association is mixed consisting largely of Latino, Haitian, and Mayan Indian immigrants who work laboriously in these low-wage jobs throughout various parts of Florida”.
The Coalition of Immokalee Workers seeks to correct this unfair payment practice. They recently won a one-penny-per-pound from Taco Bell, McDonald's and Burger King, and a few others, but Publix declined. Their desire is to get Publix on board who is a major provider of fresh tomatoes to agree to this wage hike for these farm workers. This might not sound like much, but to these farm workers who endure daily discrimination and sometimes intolerable working conditions it can be the difference between poverty and a livable income.
So if you get a chance, all are welcome to join them as they rally in front of Publix. However, if you wish to find out more on the Coalition of Immokalee Workers or give your support go to www.ciw-online.org.
On the next segment, YSL’s listeners got a chance to listen to the sounds of little miss Eva Sabiniano, a 13 year old prodigy from Lynnwood WA whose singing talent belting out Christian music has delighted many with her enchanting melodies. Eva begins by sharing a little about herself and then goes on to speak about her ministry — Born to Praise. Eva has a vision. Her drive and determination with the loving support of her family has propelled this young artist to remain focus in achieving her desire to help needy children and other similar ministries through her music.
Eva will be the first Asian (Filipino) performer on BET, Dr. Bobby Jones Gospel Show, to air on Sunday January 17, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. on channel 56. The Cocktail Dress
October 31, 2009
It is believed that the first cocktail dress made its appearance during the ‘Roaring Twenties’. The era of absolute corruption and self-indulgence, the age of bath tub gin, jazz, the model T, the $5 work day and the rise to a new woman — women who smoked, drank, voted and wanted to enjoy social gatherings, just like men.
But to do these things women had to be clever as not to wear chic evening gowns to these social gatherings because it would be a dead give away to the police who were quick to uncover banned soirées as drinking was prohibited (remember these were prohibition days). It was necessary to create special garments which were less formal than dinner clothing yet more adorned than day wear. Walla, the dawning of the cocktail dress!
The first cocktail dresses were similar to the loose cut of the flapper dress. Originally designed for the young, these dresses barely covered the knee, sound familiar. Many were heavily beaded or had fringes. The typical fabrics were silk or layered chiffon and often accessorized with tiny bags covered in sequins and rhinestones, set in a rather tiny frame, most often with a small chain handle.
However, it wasn’t until the 90s when people witnessed a revival of the cocktail dress which included the “little black dress” added in the early 30s as an essential part of a woman’s wardrobe and thus inspiring the typical cocktail dress color.
Today, designers are blending a bit of nostalgia with the present. You’re going to see much of the eighties extravagance to ballerina-inspired tutus. Those voluminous skirt that look amazing on the dance floor as it does on stage. To the two-tone separates double colors like black and white for those of you who just can't decide what color you want to wear for that upcoming bash. Now you can opt for a two-tone dress and show off the best of both worlds.
And as for the one-shouldered dress, that’s back and bigger than ever. One in particular I recommend can be easily found in Nordstrom.com. This elegant goddess-style dress in black matte jersey (stretchable ladies for easy comfort) will set off your hourglass figures or give you curves that you didn’t think you had to add just enough flash to compliment your perfect silhouette. Also, because it has a forgiving gathered skirt it’s ideal for hiding the tummy. Now that’s what I call a perk!
Even Macy*s has a dynamic fuchsia cocktail dress that’s absolutely divine. This dress says sexy all the way and for us Latinas that HIGH on our dress code. It is made of stretchable satin, has a deep low cut V and a form flattering fit plus it does come in black as well. There are plenty of other styles one can choose from like the gold sheath dress, the red cocktail dress, the black jacket cocktail dress, to the strapless cocktail dress, all are perfect selections and available at Nordstrom and Macy*s.
However, cocktail dressing is all about finding the “right” dress, one that has a singular quality about it and can take you to any party no matter the occasion. So whether you go young and flirty to glamour and sophisticated, start your holiday soirée with the dress that makes you feel the most beautiful!
Well that concludes our show for today. Come and join Jose and Haydee and the YSL team next week as they revisit with Dr. Leticia Wright whose television show “The Wright Place™ TV Show” is in its 10th season and is the fastest growing TV show about business on air. Highlights of Today’s Show...
October 24, 2009
What an incredible Saturday! When roars of laughter flood the studio, you definitely have something unique and entertaining and YSL is infectious about doing just that.
Jose begins by warmly greeting his listeners then introduces his co-host Haydee before going into the national and local news, cool trivia, followed by movies, stogie picks, and for the holidays a flan recipe to delight your palette, to the top wine selections for under $25. Next, he makes a special announcement about Border’s bookstore — informing our listeners of this one day event where they could find kid’s books at 50% off plus enjoy the Halloween spook-tacular and all taking place later this afternoon. Hope you took advantage of it!
Then it’s on to Fashion with Haydee where she fills Jose and our listeners in on several malfunctions made by hopeful candidates in search of jobs — from clothing, jewelry, to hair and nails. All of which greatly influence a perspective employer in how they view a candidate. Haydee reminds us to keep things fresh, simple, and fabulous because first impressions count especially on a job interview.
Following a brief intermission, Jose makes ready to introduces the one and only Keu Reyes — actor, writer, producer, director, filmmaker, stand-up comic, and a member of the party of no! To which Keu lightheartedly responds, “You don’t speak for me!” Keu even added to the Fashion saying, “No biker shorts, especially with a fanny pack and if overweight definitely avoid it altogether”.
Keu’s comic style is friendly and optimistic which infuses a contagious energy in the studio. His stand-up charm blossoms as the hour progressed, even after some lively bantering with our caller. He accredits much of his passage and style of life to having strong family ties.
Keu Reyes is far more than just a slapstick comedian. He’s bright, intelligent and it’s obvious that life for him is about a journey rather than the race. It certainly gave everyone a chance to sit back while participating in some side-splitting fun.
Before closing, Jose asks Keu, “Keu quickly tell me about the show and how can we contact you”. Keu tells us to go to CTV.com where you can get information on the show, Latino 101, and when it will air. However, if you wish to reach Keu go to his blog on www.artisticwarfare.com or email him at keu@artisticwarfare.com.
Yo Soy Latino is definitely one lively broadcast, often humorous and endlessly fascinating, so spread the word! If you didn’t get a chance to hear it LIVE go to our archived shows and listen and don’t forget to stop by and sign the guestbook. Include your email address so you can receive our newsletters.

Fashion Blunders on an Interview!
October 24, 2009
I speak on fashion all the time but when you are looking for work first impressions are critical, so I thought of doing a piece on the biggest faux pas one can make when looking for work. You should always make sure you’re well-groomed from your head to your toes. We tend to carry the ‘casual’ day wear into an interview and that can send the wrong message. So if you’re guilty of one of these malfunctions? It’s time for a change!
1. Going on an interview with sunglasses on top of your head or headphones around your neck, not a good thing. Tuck it away in your briefcase or just leave it in your car before entering the lobby.
2. Carrying a backpack or fanny pack instead of a briefcase or portfolio. If you do not own one borrow one it will keep your resume and references neat and safe. And for women, do leave the purses. Just take what you need for the interview.
3. Micro-mini skirts. Though I love the trend, your skirt should cover your thighs especially when you are seated. If you’re tugging at it to keep it from rising, rethink your choice.
4. The wrong tie. Ties should be made of silk, no less than 3 ¾ inches wide with a conservative pattern. The best colors are red or burgundy with a white long-sleeved shirt, no short-sleeved shirts unless you’re wearing a jacket.
5. Overly bright or large-patterned clothing. Unless you are applying for a job in the creative fields like advertising, marketing, or fashion buying it's best to stick with the basics (navy, black or gray, brown is also acceptable). The interviewer does not wish to be distracted by your clothes but what you bring to the table, your talents.
6. Heavy makeup. Keep your makeup simple you’re not going on a date but an interview.
7. Earrings on men. Avoid them. Wearing any jewelry unless it is a wedding ring, class ring or metal watch will raise a ‘red’ flag. Just as with women wearing more than one set of earrings.
8. Facial piercing or any tongue jewelry should be removed when going on an interview. Even tattoos should not be visible.
9. Don’t wear oversized clothing on an interview, it sends a negative message make sure you’re clothes are well fitted and tailored to your silhouette.
10. Fingernails. Nails should look clean and be trimmed to a length that doesn't leave the interviewer wondering how you keep from stabbing yourself or anyone else for that matter. Same applies to unnatural hair colors or styles, keep it within the natural hues.
11. Wearing strong aftershaves, perfumes or colognes. Fragrances for most can be outright offensive. Many people are allergic especially to certain scents. Consider a delicate fragrance or use soft-scented quality bath soap.
12. Sneakers. Avoid wearing them altogether and use the proper footwear.
Remember, you want the interviewer to be listening to what you're saying and not critiquing what you're wearing so don’t make these fashion blunders when on a job interview. Good luck in your job search!
Next week prepare yourself as Jose and Haydee and the YSL team return when they look into the blistering dispute between the CIW, Coalition of Immokalee Workers, and Publix as they wrangle over the one-penny-per-pound wage hike for workers to the unforgettable impressive sounds of Ms. Eva Sabiniano, a rising 13 year old Christian artist whose voice will have you saying “I wish I could sing like that!” So come back next week and share that cup of coffee with us.

Highlights of Today’s Show...
October 17, 2009
YSL promised to deliver a program full of mischief, mayhem and laughter and so they did! Today’s show definitely had all those nuts and bolts added to it!
Jose begins with his opening monologue greeting his listeners in his memorable style, followed by the national news, trivia, top ten movies and new releases, stogie picks, to today’s wine selections. Afterwards, turns his attention to Haydee who just happened to go the Bob Carr Theatre the night before for the presentation of Cinderella choreographed by Peter Stark and performed by the Orlando Ballet.
Haydee begins by sharing her views of the recital. Saying it was delightful, entertaining and lively from beginning to end. She states that the show had plenty of elements from comedy to drama throughout the entire performance. However, not wanting to reveal the details encourages everyone to see the presentation themselves. The Orlando Ballet is an exceptional dance company and YSL will definitely be highlighting future performances.
Following a brief intermission, Jose turns to Haydee who discusses Fashion after which Jose points out a quote he remembers reading as a child. Its author was the late President John F. Kennedy which mimics in certain ways the challenges faced by our current President. Stating our President stands in a new frontier dealing with challenges some new others pre-existing but nonetheless he’s come a long way given his brief tenure. Jose further discusses the health care reform and the harsh criticism of the President. It’s apparent we need a health care change however with all the escalating confusion and misinformation coming from both sides it’s not going to be an easy task. At least, one can say the President is committed in his endeavor to bring health care under control during his administration.
Jose continues and presents the rest of the YSL team, Raoul and Ron before discussing the two republican senators who are proposing to add a straightforward question on the 2010 census that would ask people, “Are you illegal?” This question certainly raised a brow or two at the studio which of course lead to Jose’s remark, “Are you nuts!” Jose did make a salient point here because the likelihood of getting a true response or any for that matter to that question would be nil.
Jose introduces Mr. Keu Reyes who’s standing in for Cris Franco. Mr. Franco had an emergency and could not join us today. However, Keu was a great stand-in. He’s the creative producer of a new show called Latino 101 which will air on CRTV beginning in November of 2009. This TV show explores Latinos through a series of interviews with musicians, politicians, comedians with a focus on our foods, and so much more. Keu goes on to explain that Latinos is a culture, not a race.
YSL's first caller wanted to discuss the issues concerning the question that some senators wanted to put into the 2010 census. Jose immediately asks the caller, how she would respond to the question, “Are you here illegally”? She said she would check the box with all the above. Our next caller dials in offering his take on the current plight of our economy, asserting it’s because of the Hi-spanics, as corrected by Keu, that we are all in this mess. Jose quickly reminds us that it’s ok to agree to disagree.
YSL was also honored with the presence of Dale Reynolds who had just completed a week of performances in Sacramento, performing his one man show portraying Thomas Jefferson. Dale enlightens us by explaining that at one point or another we were all illegal. Everyone including the Native Americans came here from somewhere else. Mr. Reynolds, who is a gringo learned to speak Spanish partly because he resides in LA and because he learned the language as he frequently traveled to and from Mexico on vacation with his parents. There where so many memorable exchanges and comments made but one of singular note made by Mr. Reynolds was, “To learn another’s language is to learn another’s culture and to learn another’s culture is to be a world citizen.”

Short, Sexy and Strong
October 17, 2009
One thing designers agreed upon this season are big strong bold shoulders. And we’re talking 80s proportions in some situations—embellishments, strong bold and powerful dressing. So brace your self ladies for the shoulder pads are back and it doesn’t look like they are going away any time soon.
The one good thing that’s unforgettable about this particular look is that it is designed to accentuate one’s appearance by enhancing a woman’s figure creating a smooth line over the collar bone area while giving that tailored slim look to your waistline. So you will see lots and lots of big shoulders silhouette the garments we wear. However, let’s not forget that bare shoulders are still going to be very, very hot! Designers want women to feel powerful and strong yet sexy and they are NOT shirking from opulence.
What you’ll be seeing in numbers though is short, sexy, and strong clothing! Particularly leather! Leather remains to be an especially HOT item! You’re going to see women wearing lots of leather this season — gloves, thigh high boots, jackets, very short shirts, vests, pants! And, if pulled together properly can be quite appealing.
Another trend is the Rock n Roll vibe — studs, grommets and spikes in jackets and jeans all returning back to the authentic rock n roll, think details that are subtle but striking. And, for evening wear — sparkle and shine —introductions of copper, gun metal and sequence dresses and gowns.
Here’s a quick overview:
80's influence:
In New York, it was all about the neon color and glitz-over-glamour an 80’s attitude; however, with the European influence, its not so much the colors, but the silhouettes, ruffled and gathered satins, the shoulder – the waist – and the feminine, but still over the top, power suits.
Brights and neon colors:
Lots of reds, oranges, greens, cobalt blue and yellow, and of course your classic black. Remember there's a shade for everyone.
Super shoulders:
Not just strong shoulders, but ‘super’ shoulders, remember Alexis or Krystle Carrington as they grace the scenes of Dynasty and those 30s stars like Joan Crawford who popularized the look when they sported shoulder pads!
Sleek tailored silhouettes:
Belts that emphasized the waist, volume that's controlled via pleats, darts or tucks and skinny pants are all part of a bigger trend which creates a smooth sleek tailored silhouette.
Black and white prints and patterns:
Black tends to make up the majority of any working woman's wardrobe, and designers have given the world plenty of options for fall 2009. So chose wisely as there are plenty of graphic patterns and pretty prints to compliment any fall wardrobe.
Fashion will always be about making a statement so make one that’s your own!
Today’s show sizzled, from our guests to our callers. Next week prepare yourself to listen to more of the same as Jose, Haydee and the YSL team return with another lively and sure to be entertaining program. Our returning guest will be Keu Reyes who’s agreed to rejoin us next week on the YSL radio hour. So come back next week and share that cup of coffee with us.

Highlights of Today’s Show...
October 10, 2009
The Yo Soy Latino show was on fire today! Jose begins in his usually manner discussing news, trivia, to his favorite stogie picks then proceeds to engage Dr. Linnda Durre of the Linnda Durre Show in conversation. Among the many issues discussed one was on the President being awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. The President was honored with this award for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen internal diplomacy and cooperation between people.
Before long Mr. Juan J. Escalante of the Orlando Ballet walks in to the studio and Jose immediately says, “our first guest just walked into the YSL studio.” Of course allowing Mr. Escalante a moment to sit and relax. Then goes ahead and announces Mr. Juan Escalante of the Orlando Ballet to his listeners. The two begin with a short greeting after which Jose curiously asks how one would go from crunching numbers in to pirouettes.
Mr. Escalante leads by briefly speaking about his early beginnings—growing up in the Bronx, being a big Yankee fan and going to Lehman College in the Bronx. He later talks of a friend whom at the time worked at the opera and told him about a job with the New York City Ballet. Being straight out of school he applied for it and got it! However, his role was always on the administration side, making clear he was never a dancer.
His attraction in the Arts heightens after sitting in the audience one day watching a rehearsal and found it intriguing. Observing how the whole process works. It was later that evening when he returned to see the actual performance with all the costumes, sceneries being moved, the stagehands running like crazy and the lighting that was fascinating to him. From that point whenever he gets a chance he sneaks a peak at the backstage because that still remains the real show, the wonderment in seeing how everything is orchestrated. Spoken like a true connoisseur of the Arts.
After moving to Miami, Mr. Escalante got a job with the Miami City Ballet and put into practice all he had learn with the New York City Ballet. The New York City Ballet is such an institution and by far the largest and stronger dance company in the world. The Miami City Ballet has a similar dance repertory. Today, Mr. Escalante is the Executive Director for the Orlando Ballet. He is quite charming, charismatic but more importantly a commanding Latino leader.
So if you’ve not been to ballet in a while now would be a perfect time to take your little ones to a performance. From October 16-18 the Orlando Ballet will be performing Cinderella. It will be an experience they will never forget! For more information on the Orlando Ballet, its performances, or if you simply would like to reach out to Mr. Escalante go to www.orlandoballet.org.
Jose immediately goes to the phone to present YSL’s second guest for the hour, the indelible delightful Ms. Maria Hinojosa. Before typically going into the usual questions, Jose gives a glowing exposé into Ms. Hinojosa’s many accomplishments then after the formalities quickly inquires about her family—husband Gérman Perez and children Raul and Yurema. When speaking of her family you hear tenderness in her voice and it is that same warmth she brings to her writing.
She continues to share with us that Gérman is an established multi-media artist and painter from the Dominican Republic. His paintings are on the covers of the books of Julia Alvarez. His works are collected by many from Cristina Saralegui to Mikhail Baryshnikov. They’ve even collaborated together on several projects, one of which was Crews: Gang Members Talk with Maria Hinojosa (Author Maria Hinojosa, Photographs by German Perez).
Ms. Hinojosa believes in giving a voice to the voiceless. As investigative journalists we have an obligation to tell the truth. We are expected to record events we witness or gather from sources. But foremost be humble and honest when we do. Not only is she amazing, she happens to also be down-to-earth. Words can’t even pierce the veil of this charming woman, to manage as well as she does while having several irons in the fire. We were blown away.
Whether you like or loved her before, by the end of the show you had a deeper appreciation for her and all that she has accomplished as a Latina, woman, Emmy-award winner, journalist, mother and wife. And as for her fans, which there were six at the studio excluding our listeners, they are just going to love her even more now. We ask that you go to the archived show and listen to today’s guest interviews this narration does not do it justice.
If you wish to contact Maria, she is always open to friendship in Facebook, go ahead and invite her to be a friend. If you send her a message, do give her time to get back to you but she will eventually respond. Here are other website where you will find Ms. Hinojosa: One-on-One (www.wgbh.org), Latino USA (www.latinousa.kut.org), Maria Hinojosa on NOW (www.pbs.org).

Holiday Fun!
October 10, 2009
The theme of the day is Halloween because the NEW costumes for woman this year not only are they whimsical and fun, they down right sizzle!
So my advice to everyone is go shameless, sexy, fabulous, diva-licious, to angelic and kickoff this occasion with some really neat choices. Halloween Express offers a large assortment. I pulled together some of my favorites....
The Cleopatra costume is downright hot! It includes a dress with hip wraps, sequined arm and wrist bands with an overlapping sheer draping, jeweled sequined headband, a collar and an apron belt all for about $70. Supplement it with a Gold Snake Belt ($12), Gold Snake Bracelet ($7), Gold Egyptian Headpiece ($22), and if you really want to go all the way buy the Egyptian wig for another $10. Total cost for everything is about $121. But the best part is for one night you are PHARAOH, you are the Queen of the Nile and all will bow and worship at your feet.
Another is the Sexy Black Witch costume. Imagine yourself casting a deliciously wicked spell on those unsuspecting suitors when you wear this Sexy Black Witch outfit. This costume includes an open-back Lycra dress with spider net sleeves, lace-up front, gathered detail, collar and hat. I’m afraid you’ll have to supply your own broom as it is not included, add a nice pair of black stilettos and you’ll be able to bring any ghost or goblin to their knees in this get-up.
BUT, if that’s not for you and you happen to be the gangster type consider the Sexy Gangster Girl costume for $60. This costume includes a dress with ¾ sleeves, black tie and toy gun. Add a black hat you know the kind I mean a fedora ($25), some opaque thigh high stockings (red, black or white) for about $8 and white or black high-heel shoes for another $35; when done, you’ll be outright sinister the sexiest femme fatale hitting any scandalous scene.
And, who can resist this delightful most intriguing costume, Pocahottie Sexy. This garment includes a brown micro suede stretch dress with intricate Indian beading and layered fringe hem, matching Indian beaded headpiece with feathers all for $55. Accent it with knee high brown stiletto boots and you’ll have them howling like a coyote. So for all you so-called warrior types beware for you may be the one she delights in her teepee late at night!
Two other favorites worth sneaking a peek at are the Mummy My Dear costume and Goddess costume. Both are inexpensive and will definitely make you the center of attention.
Happy early Halloweeen!
Well that concludes the YSL show for today. But before closing we wish to let you know that Corona (in the Dr. Phillips area) is having an event on the 24th of October for all La Gloria smokers. Unfortunately, we can’t say if this will be throughout all the other stores. So don’t forget to mark your calendars accordingly as they will have a LIVE cigar roller on that date.
Next week prepare yourself to listen to mischief, mayhem and laughter as Jose, Haydee and the YSL team return with another YSL production. Our guests will be Cris Franco and Dale Reynolds who have graciously agreed once again to return to the Yo Soy Latino radio hour. So turn up your radio, tune in to WEUS 810AM and come back next week and share that cup of coffee with us.
Please take a moment to share your thoughts and views with us. Call the station at (407) 774-1085 and let us know what you’re thinking, your opinion matters!

Once again YSL was filled with fervor and zeal from beginning to end as Jose begins his talk with the national and local news to a remark made by Congressman Alan Grayson for as we all know there are no easy anecdotes to the nations’ health care reform. But his (Grayson’s) audacious remark definitely was impressive which only left Jose with kudos for the Congressman for standing firm and speaking up. And, even in his apology he was still relentless. As Jose said, “you couldn’t help but admire his tenacity to speak on behalf of the American people”.
Then Jose directs his attention to Haydee for an entertaining break into the world of fashion before introducing his first guest, the young, attractive, and talented Jessica Gonzalez. This young lady is making her mark in television while still pursuing her degree at the University of Central Florida. When asked why she replied, “Knowledge is Power!”
There is no doubt this young lady will go places. She’s passionate about acting and has also set a goal for herself. As the interview moves on this soft-spoken Latina enlightens us as to how she got her big break. Explaining that it was while working at a timeshare company where she met a film producer and being so enthusiastic offered to help.
Before long he gave her a small acting part in his film. That small role landed her the character of Rosangela in a mini-series called “Las Caras del Diablo (translated means “The Faces of the Devil”). Jessica plays Rosangela, a young aristocrat who falls in love with a penniless man.
Ms. Gonzalez is one vivacious Latina who believes one should live life with purpose, reaffirming that we all have this similar goal. If you wish to reach out to Jessica, she can be reached on Facebook and soon on Twitter under Jessica Ferrer. Get in touch with her and become a friend.
Jose then sets up to introduce his second guest, Ms. Cristina Mella. Ms. Mella is a ‘LifeStyle Guru’ who can do anything. She characterizes herself as “a passionate Latina with a mission”.
There’s a lot to pick apart in this job description but she clearly defines her role. She offers creative, fun, and practical innovative decorating ideas for every room in the home. She is entertaining and resourceful. Sharing with us any great decorating scheme begins with color and practicality. Her website is full of suggestions for dozens of home-decorating ideas so feel free to visit her site at cristina.mella.com, Latino Living. Cristina is also on Facebook so don’t forget to become a friend.
As always, the Yo Soy Latino Radio Show offers its listeners every week thoughtful and lively entertainment.
But before closing, YSL would like to remind you to please check your tires — tires do have a shelf life! Even if they have plenty of tread on the outside they can dry out on the inside and become less elastic thereby causing fatal accidents even death.
Your tires should be no more than 6 years old. To determine how old your tires are follow the DOT numbers to the end of the letter. There will be some numbers following, i.e., 2402 that means the tires was made on the 24th week of 2002, making your tires 7 years old. Should you see something like 411 that should immediately raise a RED FLAG because that means the tires were produce on the 41st week of the year 1991, well past its expiration date!

Sophisticated & Sexy!!!
October 3, 2009
This week’s editorial is on women’s fall business styles — sophisticated and sexy! And, what diva doesn’t like that! Let’s begin by focusing on the most popular trends.
JACKETS: Should be fitted to show off your feminine curves, not a baggy masculine style and pair with everything from work trousers to jeans. It should add structure to your figure giving curvy girls more angular lines, creating waistlines for boyish figure types while smoothing out lumps and bumps for all shapes. When selecting choose traditional fall jacket fabrics like tweed, corduroy, denim or simply go luxurious with velvet and leather.
SHIRTS: Sounds basic but a crisp, long-sleeve white shirt is a building block of your fall wardrobe and the varieties are endless. All work well under everything from cardigans to jackets or on their own with wide-leg trousers.
PANTSUITS: This may be the ‘ultimate’ power suit for the working woman because it can pull its weight after hours when paired with a silky cami and heels. It’s a great transitional piece especially the solid black pantsuit. Given that it is the most flattering and the most classic. But always look for fabric with some stretch for comfort.
SWEATERS: Neckline trends come and go but a turtleneck sweater has earned its place as a classic. Here's why! It brings your face into focus, especially a mock turtleneck which I believe to be a good option if you don’t like the bulk of a turtleneck. Stick with cozy, touchable fabric because anything itchy or scratchy will definitely be unbearable on your sensitive neck area. However, if you’re not into turtlenecks like me, select one. Make it a black turtleneck which is the ultimate classic plus it’s a blank palette to show off all of your accessories like necklaces, pearls or cuff bracelets.
BOOTS: Knee high boots make great sense for fall because they let you get more wear out of everything from skinny jeans to mini-skirts. Brown boots are a great choice if you wear lots of denim, but black always pairs with almost everything.
PEARLS: Pearls are timeless and the perfect trend-proof accessory to compliment the more structured styles of fall. Wear gray pearls with black for a sexy tonal look; or choose layers of creamy white or pink pearls worn with a simple black sheath dress for a perfect cocktail dress look. Anyway you wear this knee-length classic sheath dress is always a winner. Fabric choices can include knits, crepe, and silk or try something edgy like a leather sheath, now that’s hot!
BAGS: Bags are bigger and a hot choice! With the cooler weather slowly running in you have more to carry (umbrellas, wraps, hats, etc.) so the leather bag does not have to be boring. Keep in mind that this bag will be a faithful friend for years and even if one splurges you'll still get a lot of mileage on your investment.
Whether at work or play looking your best can be very rewarding, so just have fun!
Well that concludes our show for today. Next week we will have Maria Hinojosa world journalist and Emmy award winner at NPR (National Public Radio) and Mr. Juan J. Escalante Executive Director of the Orlando Ballet. Where in one show can one combine such talents but only here at the YSL show! So come back next week and share that cup of coffee with us as we bring you another exciting show.

Highlights of Today’s Show...
September 26, 2009
YSL had some gremlins visit again and Haydee sought to fight them off but was vanquished by the tech monsters, smile. The program went on and we are sorry that we missed our guests Cris Franco, and Dale Reynolds. But the good news is that they will be returning in the near future. Even with gremlins, Haydee and Jose forged forward talking about men's fashion, wines, stogies and just about everything. We even had an opportunity to discuss childhood stuff like recalling games like stick ball, stoop ball, ringolevio, and even on how our parents might have disciplined us, ouch! Smile. YSL even has some great recipes to share with you.
We are sure you will enjoy listening to the archive show and hearing the banter between Haydee and Jose as they entertain and inform you of what’s going on with an occasional poke at the tech gremlins by Jose.
Haydee's Slice of Fashion...
Suave & Hip!!!
September 26, 2009
This week’s fashion editorial is going to be on men’s fall/winter styles...suave and hip! A tribute to all the classics in men’s suits—black, navy, charcoal, pin stripes, etc.
The stylish choices for the season are the one-button and two-button tailored suits. While lapels continue to remain narrow with shoulders soft and natural.
However, to pronounce the elegance of your suit, add a pure silk tie (choose red, grey, or blue solids, even stripes or prints) blend it with a woven shirt—cotton, silk, gauze, linen even a poly/cotton mix (natural yet breathable fabric for comfort) or just keep it simple, shirt only.
Definitely look for slick fitted one and two button variations. Go casual with sport and crop jackets in contrasting fabrics consider a fine trim vest or sweater in contrasting colors (depending on the weather) and some cuffed pants.
For a even more casual approach while still making it a dressy statement trim tailored sports coats, some with piping detail that is reminiscent of the traditional of British college uniforms.
Now leaping into Spring 2010...it will be a tribute to the classic beauty of Sicilian men—the period of impeccable and timeless elegance. Clothing that will definitely appeal to today’s modern guy and how he dresses!
